X intends to manage your video edits internally, beginning with captions and personalized backgrounds.
Multilingual captions and green screen support are now being introduced on iOS, with additional updates expected in the upcoming weeks.
X is providing creators on iOS a compelling reason to forgo third-party apps whenever they wish to enhance a clip. The company just revealed a revamped Video Editor and Recorder, featuring tools that creators have been requesting since before the platform adopted the X name. This announcement closely follows X’s renewed focus on live video, which included the launch of a new Live Studio hub and a million-dollar creator payout incentive aimed at encouraging more streaming on the platform.
Built-in captions and custom backgrounds
The new video editor allows users to overlay captions in multiple languages directly onto their videos and customize their appearance before sharing. X has also introduced a green screen tool that changes a video's background using photos or posts directly from a creator’s camera roll. Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, shared the update in a recent post, mentioning that users have long been asking for these features.
Today we are unveiling a completely new Video Editor and Recorder in the iOS app, featuring some much-anticipated functionalities: • Overlay captions in various languages and personalize their appearance • Green Screen—Incorporate custom backgrounds using posts or photos from your camera roll. Both features address a significant gap, as creators who desired multilingual captions or a seamless background swap previously needed to depend on separate video editing applications before uploading the final file to X. Integrating these tools within the iOS app reduces obstacles and may encourage more casual users to share videos on the platform.
Additional updates are forthcoming
Bier mentioned that the company plans to continue enhancing the video editor in the coming weeks, although he didn’t specify what’s next. Considering X’s recent development of creator tools, from Live Studio to in-app editing, the latest update represents another move towards Elon Musk’s long-professed ambition of transforming X into an all-encompassing app.
Whether this is sufficient to draw users away from dedicated editing apps will depend on how effectively X fulfills its promise to deliver more features.

Reddit is employing AI to prevent brands from embedding ads into your ChatGPT responses.
Reddit has established itself as a favored platform for sharing opinions online, accommodating a wide range of communities, no matter how specific. However, a new issue has emerged with the presence of brands and marketers. Companies and agencies are now embedding promotional comments and posts on Reddit, hoping that tools like ChatGPT and Gemini will later present them as authentic recommendations. This tactic is part of generative engine optimization, or GEO, a rising marketing approach aimed at swaying chatbot outputs instead of traditional Google search results. Now, Reddit is countering this trend with an AI of its own, similar to some other platforms.

A recent study has shown that AI tools frequently steer social media posts in a particular direction, even when instructed to maintain the original meaning.
If you’ve recently asked an AI tool to assist you with a social media post, you might have received more than just a grammar correction. New research from the Oxford Internet Institute and the Hasso Plattner Institute reveals that AI models can subtly influence the tone of a post towards one side of an argument, even when directed not to alter its meaning.

I am a dedicated viewer of YouTube Shorts. I’m not particularly proud of it, yet the habit of doomscrolling has firmly taken root, and I’m unsure there’s any escape.

Fortunately, this has changed for the better. YouTube has rolled out a few new features for Shorts that have truly transformed the way I engage with the app.
