X aims to maintain its video edits internally, beginning with captions and personalized backgrounds.
Multilingual captions and green screen functionality are now being introduced on iOS, with more enhancements expected in the upcoming weeks.
X is providing iOS creators with a reason to stop using third-party apps for video enhancements. The company has unveiled a revamped Video Editor and Recorder, incorporating features that creators have long desired since before the platform was known as X. This launch happens alongside X’s renewed focus on live streaming, which includes a newly introduced Live Studio and a million-dollar incentive to encourage more streaming on the platform.
Built-in captions and custom backgrounds
The updated video editor allows users to directly overlay captions in several languages onto their videos and customize their appearance before publishing. Additionally, X has introduced a green screen tool that can change a video’s background using images or posts taken directly from a creator’s camera roll. Nikita Bier, the head of product at X, shared the announcement in a recent post, noting that users have awaited these features for quite some time.
Today we are introducing an entirely new Video Editor and Recorder in the iOS app. This includes features that users have been longing for: • Overlay captions in various languages and adjust their appearance • Green Screen—Incorporate custom backgrounds using camera roll posts or photos. These new features close a significant gap, as creators previously needed to rely on separate video editing applications to add multilingual captions or perform background changes before uploading their finished work to X. By integrating these tools directly into the iOS app, the process becomes more seamless, potentially encouraging more casual users to share videos on the platform.
Further updates are anticipated
Bier mentioned that the company intends to continue enhancing the video editor over the next few weeks, although he did not specify the upcoming features. Given X’s recent expansion of its creator tools—from Live Studio to in-app editing—this latest update is another step towards Elon Musk’s long-expressed ambition of transforming X into an all-in-one application.
Whether this will be sufficient to entice users away from specialized editing applications will depend on how effectively X fulfills its promise to deliver additional features.

This tactic is part of generative engine optimization (GEO), a new marketing approach aimed at influencing chatbot responses over traditional Google search results. Reddit is responding to this challenge with its own AI, similar to other platforms.

Fortunately, that has changed for the better. YouTube has rolled out a few new features for Shorts that have genuinely transformed how I use the app.
