miHoYo reveals a fresh path with NODUSFALL at Gamescom 2026.

miHoYo reveals a fresh path with NODUSFALL at Gamescom 2026.

Gamescom 2026 is taking place in Cologne, Germany, from August 26 to 30. During Opening Night Live, miHoYo introduced its new original intellectual property, NODUSFALL, for the first time, unveiling its world premiere trailer that showcased glimpses of the game's combat mechanics and setting.

Compared to the anime-style characters and RPG-centric gameplay found in many of miHoYo's earlier titles, this new game adopts a distinctly different approach in both visual aesthetics and combat design.

According to the footage presented at the event, NODUSFALL is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, with the demo highlighting exploration, combat, and multiplayer cooperation. Players will have the ability to control customizable characters while navigating ruins that hover above a sea of clouds.

The environment's floating platforms, structures, and other features can react to player actions and attacks from massive creatures, augmented by physics-based effects that enhance spatial interactions during combat.

Multiplayer cooperation is a core feature demonstrated in the demo. The game presents a combat system centered around Elemental Links, allowing players to create various energy nodes on large elemental creatures through different weapons and attacks, as they work together to exploit these nodes.

The demo supports teams of up to four players, and characters can utilize environmental mechanics in battles, such as using floating platforms to swiftly approach a creature and aim for specific body parts.

Instead of primarily relying on character skills for dealing damage, this design emphasizes player coordination and the environmental role in combat. The scale and attack patterns of the giant creatures impart a unique hunting-game atmosphere, distinguishing NODUSFALL from miHoYo's previous open-world and action RPG offerings.

The demo also provided a first look at the game’s world. The narrative unfolds across floating continents created after the shattering of the Source Core.

The dispersed Elements have altered the local ecosystem and bestowed various powers upon certain creatures and humans. Players will assume the roles of Linkers, exploring diverse ruins as they gradually uncover the events that led to the Source Core's destruction.

From the current information available, NODUSFALL does not adhere to the traditional anime-style RPG framework seen in titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. It aims for a more realistic fantasy setting along with action-driven combat and multiplayer cooperation.

Further details regarding characters, regions, and the business model for NODUSFALL are yet to be disclosed, and miHoYo has not provided an official release date. According to miHoYo, development for NODUSFALL has been ongoing for over four years.

For miHoYo, which has already built a robust lineup of anime-themed games, this new title represents an effort to delve into a different genre and potentially appeal to a diverse segment of the global gaming market.

Whether this strategy will attract players in an increasingly competitive global gaming landscape will depend on how miHoYo continues to evolve the game’s content and long-term operations.
