There's no agreement yet, but Netflix is considering adding competing streaming services to its platform.

Netflix has long maintained that it doesn’t require external assistance to keep its audience engaged, but this stance may be evolving. As reported by The New York Times, Netflix executives have recently entertained discussions about possibly integrating Peacock and Fox One into its service, signaling a strategic shift for a company that has typically operated independently.

Why this is significant for Netflix

Just two years ago, Netflix assured shareholders that it was already the primary destination for entertainment and didn't need any partnerships. However, this position seems to be changing. Netflix has tested this concept in France by incorporating a local broadcaster, TF1, into its app in June, which included live channels and on-demand content.

During a July earnings call, Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters reported positive initial results and indicated that the company might explore similar partnerships in the future if they benefit both parties. It’s important to note that there are currently no concrete plans for collaborations with Peacock or Fox One, making this an early-stage discussion rather than a finalized agreement.

What lies ahead is still uncertain

One major question still looms: Will Netflix simply sell subscriptions to Peacock and Fox One as Amazon Prime Video does with services like HBO Max? Or will it integrate that content into its own library, akin to YouTube's recent approach with Peacock through its Premium tier?

Netflix has not specified which way it is leaning. Regardless, this aligns with a broader trend among streaming platforms, where companies once focused solely on subscriber acquisition are now competing to be the first app users open, even if it means collaborating with rivals they previously avoided.

As the music industry grapples with an influx of music, Dr. Dre encourages artists to embrace AI

AI-generated music is becoming increasingly prevalent. As tools simplify the process of producing entire songs with little effort, streaming platforms and social media are inundated with what many refer to as "AI slop." For musicians, this has understandably sparked difficult questions about the future of the industry. However, Dr. Dre is not inclined to shy away from AI; instead, he advocates for artists to welcome it.

In an interview with The New York Times alongside his long-time collaborator Jimmy Iovine, Dre shared that he’s already experimenting with AI in music production. Rather than viewing the technology as a potential substitute for musicians, the iconic producer perceives it as an additional creative resource — and he believes those concerned about it may be misinterpreting the situation. “I don’t see it as a threat,” Dre stated, suggesting that individuals who struggle with creativity are more likely to feel threatened by AI.
