Netflix may allow you to stream Peacock and Fox One through its application.

      Netflix has long maintained that it doesn’t require external assistance to attract viewers, but that perspective may be shifting. As reported by The New York Times, Netflix executives are currently in discussions about potentially incorporating Peacock and Fox One into their platform, which would represent a strategic shift for a company that has typically kept its offerings self-contained.

      Why this development is significant for Netflix

      Merely two years ago, Netflix informed shareholders that it serves as a primary source for entertainment and does not need partnerships. However, this viewpoint seems to be evolving. Netflix has already embarked on this initiative in France by adding a local broadcaster, TF1, to its app last June, offering both live channels and on-demand content.

      During a July earnings call, Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters described the initial outcomes as promising and noted that the company would explore similar arrangements moving forward if they benefit both parties. It should be emphasized that there are currently no immediate arrangements planned with Peacock or Fox One, meaning discussions are still in the preliminary phase and not finalized.

      What lies ahead is still uncertain

      One significant question remains unanswered and is quite relevant: Will Netflix simply offer subscriptions to Peacock and Fox One like Amazon's Prime Video does with services such as HBO Max? Or will it integrate that content into its own library, similar to how YouTube has incorporated Peacock through its Premium tier?

      Netflix has not specified which direction it might take. Regardless, this aligns with the existing trend among streaming platforms, where companies that once focused solely on subscriber growth are now competing to be the first app users open, even if it involves collaboration with rivals they once overlooked entirely.
