AMD's upcoming Medusa APUs are preparing for their release, and Linux has just revealed some details.
A new RDNA 4m firmware has emerged in the Linux ecosystem prior to the rollout of AMD's Ryzen AI 500-series.
AMD's upcoming Ryzen AI 500 “Medusa Point” APUs are progressing towards realization, with Linux being the source of the latest information. As reported by Phoronix, AMD has released the necessary firmware for its forthcoming RDNA 4m integrated graphics, indicating that the Zen 6-based mobile chips are approaching their launch.
RDNA 4m is an intriguing hybrid
The newly released firmware is compatible with AMD’s GFX 11.7 graphics IP, referred to as RDNA 4m. It occupies a unique space between the current RDNA 3.5 architecture and the full RDNA 4. While AMD’s desktop RDNA 4 GPUs utilize the GFX 12 family, RDNA 4m remains within the GFX 11 family.
Kernel
The "m" is widely interpreted as standing for mobile, indicating that RDNA 4m is likely tailored specifically for APUs. Early work within Linux and LLVM suggests that it incorporates some RDNA 4-like features, such as FP8/BF8 conversion and WMMA instructions, which may enhance Medusa Point's AI and graphics capabilities without overhauling the entire graphics architecture.
The firmware supports GFX 11.7.0 and 11.7.1, along with security, display, and memory-management components, indicating that AMD is preparing much of the software infrastructure for the new chips. This is particularly notable given the earlier leaks of a 10-core Zen 6 Medusa Point APU seen in Geekbench, which demonstrated promising performance improvements over current Ryzen mobile chips. AMD has confirmed the Medusa codename for its upcoming Zen 6 client platform, but specific details on the specifications and launch remain undisclosed.
The APU refresh is heating up
The pivotal question is what AMD can achieve with this RDNA 4m design. While it is not a complete RDNA 4 GPU, the additional instruction support could provide a beneficial boost to AMD’s integrated graphics while maintaining APU efficiency.
Currently, the firmware’s release ahead of the official launch signals that Medusa Point is transitioning from concept to tangible hardware. If AMD can pair the CPU enhancements of Zen 6 with a more capable integrated GPU and modern AI features, the next generation of Ryzen could lead to some truly captivating laptops.

A new iMac is expected before the end of 2026, but significant changes should not be anticipated beyond the M6 chip.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, those awaiting a new iMac only have a few more months to wait. Apple is reportedly working on an updated model, which should be available for purchase by the end of 2026. This refresh is expected to include Apple’s forthcoming M6 chip along with some new color options. However, Gurman indicates that buyers shouldn't expect significant redesigns, suggesting that Apple will retain the familiar 24-inch design without introducing a larger display, OLED panel, or extensive chassis changes.
We have observed a trend of premium hardware in Googlebook laptops lately, but pricing remains a significant unanswered question. A recent leak from ASUS offers insight into the potential pricing of these devices, revealing that even the less powerful models might not be particularly affordable.
A now-removed Canadian retail listing featured an ASUS Googlebook CX9406 with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, priced at approximately CA$1,900, which equates to around $1,380.
I discovered a solution to the features that Apple Notes has lacked for years.
A free extension has provided Apple Notes with the enhancements it has needed for an extended period. Apple Notes is one of my preferred note-taking applications. It’s free, preinstalled on all my Apple devices, and offers a solid range of features like shared notes, note locking, the capability to attach various file types, and linking notes among others, which is sufficient for most users.
Nonetheless, there are several features I hope Apple will eventually add to Notes. I continue to check for new features with each iOS and macOS update, yet I remain disappointed. Until Apple chooses to catch up, I've found a free extension called ProNotes that integrates most of these missing functionalities right into the app. Allow me to explain what it offers.
