The design of the Xperia 10 VIII has been revealed, and Sony is making minimal changes.
The upcoming Sony Xperia 10 VIII has surfaced in a new leak just days prior to its anticipated launch.
An image from Android Headlines showcases what is purported to be the Xperia 10 VIII ahead of Sony’s event in Japan on August 25. While Sony has only confirmed the arrival of a new “Xperia Product,” recent leaks have pointed specifically to the Xperia 10 VIII. If the image is correct, it appears that Sony is not making significant changes to the exterior this year.
The resemblance to the Xperia 10 VII is unmistakable.
At first glance, distinguishable features between the leaked device and last year's Xperia 10 VII are minimal. Sony seems to be keeping the horizontal camera module, which includes two rear cameras, an LED flash, and the company’s branding next to them.
The leaked phone is presented in a light green color, and the right side retains the familiar volume buttons and recessed power button. This suggests that Sony is likely continuing with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Since the leak shows only the rear and part of the side, it does not clarify whether there are any significant alterations to the display or the front design.
Familiar specifications are likely as well.
The design isn't the only aspect that might be borrowed from the Xperia 10 VII. A recent Geekbench listing for the Sony XQ-GH54, thought to be the Xperia 10 VIII, indicated it features a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor paired with 8GB of RAM.
This chipset is the same as that in last year's model. The device scored 871 points in Geekbench's single-core test and 3,028 points in multi-core, indicating that there may not be a substantial performance increase this generation.
As mentioned earlier, Sony's event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Japan time on August 25, which corresponds to 10 p.m. ET on August 24 for viewers in the U.S. Xperia phones are still available in Japan and some markets like the UK and Germany, however, Sony has significantly reduced its smartphone presence and no longer officially sells Xperia phones in the U.S., making a stateside release for the Xperia 10 VIII seem unlikely.
Sony is expected to provide further details about the cameras, battery, pricing, and availability during the event.
