The recent Proton update from Valve addresses issues with Helldivers 2, Forza Horizon, and several other titles.
Proton 11.0-2 addresses crashes, black screens, launch issues, and various compatibility problems
Valve has launched Proton 11.0-2, and although the version number might not seem thrilling, SteamOS and Linux players have numerous reasons to be interested. This latest stable release of Proton resolves a multitude of compatibility issues within Windows games, including Helldivers 2, Marvel Rivals, Arc Raiders, and Forza Horizon series (4, 5, and 6).
Many games are now significantly improved
Several major titles benefit from valuable fixes. Helldivers 2 can now launch successfully again after a previous update disrupted its compatibility, while Marvel Rivals has received a fix for crashes, and Arc Raiders is playable again for some users. Additionally, Diablo IV and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain have been addressed following recent updates that caused compatibility issues.
The Forza Horizon series also receives attention. Proton 11.0-2 resolves black screen issues affecting Forza Horizon 4, 5, and 6 on recent versions of SteamOS, and Forza Horizon 6 has also received a fix for it unexpectedly closing after the system is suspended and resumed. This is particularly useful for portable users who regularly utilize sleep mode to pause their games.
Valve also improved Proton itself
Proton 11.0-2 not only targets specific games but also fixes bugs from earlier Proton versions, such as performance issues in Terraria and Exanima, ray-tracing problems in Crysis 2 Remastered, and launch issues in Borderlands GOTY Enhanced. An additional nine games have been added to the officially supported titles list for Proton.
Behind the scenes, Valve has upgraded various components of Proton to enhance the performance of Windows games on Linux. One of these updates, FEX, is especially noteworthy for Valve's anticipated Steam Frame, as it enables ARM-based hardware to run games initially designed for x86 PCs. For regular Steam Deck users, the key takeaway is straightforward: if a game was malfunctioning yesterday, there’s a good chance it has been fixed today.
A new iMac is expected before the end of 2026, but don’t anticipate much beyond M6
If past trends are any indication, Apple’s M6 iMac may debut following the September iPhone event.
Those anticipating a new iMac might have only a few months left to wait. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on an updated model expected to be available for purchase before the end of 2026. The refresh is likely to showcase Apple’s forthcoming M6 chip and some new color variations. However, beyond these updates, customers should not expect a major redesign from Apple this year, as Gurman indicates the forthcoming model will largely retain the familiar 24-inch design without introducing a larger screen, OLED display, or significant chassis changes.
ASUS’ less powerful Googlebook could still carry a hefty price tag
Even opting for the Core Ultra 5 might not result in a budget-friendly Googlebook.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen Googlebook laptops featuring increasingly high-end specifications, but pricing remains one of the most significant uncertainties. A recent leak from ASUS may finally shed light on the potential pricing of some of these devices, revealing that even the less powerful options may still be quite expensive. A now-removed Canadian retail listing observed by GbookHub showcased an ASUS Googlebook CX9406 equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, priced at approximately CA$1,900, which translates to about $1,380.
I discovered a solution to the features Apple Notes has been lacking for years
A free extension has finally provided Apple Notes the enhancements it has needed.
Apple Notes is among my preferred note-taking applications. It’s free, comes pre-installed on every Apple device I possess, and already includes a solid array of features such as shared notes, note locking, the ability to attach various file types, and linking notes, among others. For most users, this is sufficient.
That said, there are several features I wish Apple would eventually incorporate into Notes. Consequently, I routinely check for new features with each iOS and macOS update, but have continually been disappointed. Until Apple decides to catch up, I found a free extension called ProNotes, which adds most of these missing functionalities directly into the app. Let me explain what it brings to the experience.
