rankingCoach Secures Default Placement on WordPress Through Extendify Collaboration
Cologne-based rankingCoach has secured an agreement to have its BeyondSEO plugin pre-installed by default via Extendify, the onboarding platform utilized by hosting providers for setting up WordPress sites. The plugin currently boasts just over 3,000 active installations and comes at a time when AI Overviews have reduced click-through rates for top-ranking pages by 58%.
A German marketing software firm has managed to embed itself into the default WordPress configuration. rankingCoach’s BeyondSEO plugin is now included in Extendify, the onboarding tool used by hosting providers when clients create a new site. According to the WordPress directory, the plugin has just over 3,000 active installations.
BeyondSEO is available for free and functions without requiring a rankingCoach account. It features a built-in Marketing Radar that prompts upgrades, and a single click connects users to the rest of the company’s paid suite, which includes local listings, Google Ads, review management, social scheduling, and brand monitoring.
The focus is on distribution. Extendify markets onboarding software to web hosts, reaching millions of site owners, while rankingCoach claims to operate in over 50 countries. Being available at the moment users are setting up their sites is more advantageous than simply being a superior product.
“Partnering with Extendify positions BeyondSEO to reach WordPress users precisely when they are creating their site and considering growth strategies,” explained Thomas Meierkord, co-founder and chief operating officer of rankingCoach.
What makes this timing noteworthy is the current decline in click-through rates the plugin aims to address. In February, Ahrefs reported that AI Overviews are associated with a 58% decrease in click-through rates for top-ranking pages. Pew's findings indicated that users click on traditional results 8% of the time when an AI summary is present, compared to 15% without.
In response to the declining rates, Google has made adjustments, adding Further Exploration links and subscription labels, as the decrease prompted antitrust lawsuits. This trend has adversely affected content creators in the open web space.
rankingCoach’s pitch reflects this shift, stating that BeyondSEO aids users in enhancing visibility across both traditional searches and “AI-powered search experiences,” a process the industry has begun referring to as generative engine optimisation. This involves optimization for a system that summarizes rather than links, which requires a different approach.
The underlying platform is also decreasing. According to HTTP Archive data, WordPress accounted for 33.2% of measurable websites in April, down from a peak of 35.8% in July 2022, while Google’s dominance is weakening as assistants tackle search queries.
The key commercial question is whether default placement will convert free installations into paid subscriptions. A broader concern is whether search optimization tools will retain their value once search no longer drives traffic.
