Google's latest Pixel 11 Pro Fold is more lightweight, slimmer, and smarter, although its battery life has been compromised.

Alongside the new Pixel 11 and two Pro versions, Google introduced its latest foldable device at the Made by Google event in New York today. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is equipped with the same Tensor G6 chip as the rest of the series, featuring a brighter display and the HiLight function similar to its Pro counterparts, all contained within a slimmer and lighter design. This results in a more elegant foldable, but it presents an intriguing compromise regarding battery capacity.

Lighter, slimmer, and available in new colors

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has lost nearly 20 grams, weighing in at 239 grams down from 258 grams, and is also thinner, with a depth reduction from 10.8mm to 10.1mm when folded and from 5.2mm to 5.0mm when unfolded. The overall dimensions remain consistent, with the height and width staying at 155.2 x 150.4mm when unfolded, while the folded size reduces slightly from 155.2 x 76.3 mm to 155.2 x 76mm.

In addition to its slimmer profile, the materials and components have been updated. The cover glass has switched from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to what Google refers to as “ultra-durable glass ceramic,” and the cover screen has seen a minor increase from 6.4 inches to 6.5 inches, boasting a 1080 x 2342 resolution and 399 PPI pixel density. The maximum brightness for both displays has also been upgraded from 3,000 nits to 3,600 nits, although other specifications remain unchanged. The color options have been refreshed, replacing last year’s Moonstone and Jade with Olive and Obsidian.

Upgraded chip, but reduced battery size

Like the other models in the Pixel 11 range, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold features the Tensor G6 chip along with the Titan M3 security chip. Google claims that this new 2nm processor provides up to 20% improved power efficiency, 25% faster browsing speeds, and 15% quicker app loading times compared to the previous chip, as well as a 50% increase in TPU performance.

In contrast to the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL, which start at 12GB of RAM for their base configurations, the Pro Fold maintains a consistent 16GB in all setups. Storage options remain unchanged at 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. However, the battery capacity has seen a significant reduction compared to the minor decreases in the Pro and Pro XL models. The typical capacity has decreased from 5,015mAh to 4,750mAh, reflecting a reduction of approximately 5.3%, unlike the sub-2% reductions observed in the Pro models.

Despite the reduced battery size, Google still claims over 24 hours of battery life, echoing the estimate provided for last year's model, likely due to the efficiency improvements from the new chip. The speed for wired charging stays the same, with Google asserting that it can charge “up to 50% in about 30 minutes” using the same 30W charger, while wireless charging has increased from 15W to 25W.

Enhanced main sensor and extended zoom capabilities

The rear camera configuration introduces a notable hardware upgrade. The 40MP main camera retains the same f/1.7 aperture as last year’s model; however, the sensor itself has significantly increased in size, going from 1/2.0 inches to 1/1.56 inches, which should result in better low-light performance. The 10.5MP ultrawide and 10.8MP telephoto lenses remain unchanged. The two 10MP front-facing cameras also carry forward from the previous model.

Similar to the Pro models, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold features enhanced Super Zoom capabilities, increasing from 20x to 30x. Additionally, it includes exclusive camera features suited to the foldable format, such as Dual Screen Preview, allowing you to see yourself on the cover screen while posing, Rear Camera Selfie, which utilizes the high-resolution rear camera for selfies framed on the outer screen, and Made You Look, which displays animations on the cover screen to attract children or pets' attention to the camera.

Smarter multitasking and enhanced Gemini integration

On the software side, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold operates on Android 17 and incorporates the same features as the Pro and Pro XL, including Magic Capture, Camera Looks, Circle to Search in the camera app, Gemini Intelligence for managing routine tasks like bookings and calls, Live Translate for videos and podcasts, sign language translation, and enhanced voice-to-text. Features such as Call Screen, Scam Detection, and a built-in VPN are also included from the broader lineup.

The dual screens of the Fold allow for several features unique to this form factor. Split Screen functionality
