Google Drive enhances its video collaboration features by introducing timestamped comments.

Google Drive's timestamped comments allow users to attach feedback to specific moments in videos.

Over the years, I've partnered with several video editors and content creator friends, often highlighting issues like when text is hard to read around the two-minute mark or how the transition in the opening sequence seems a bit off.

However, most of the time, they would spend time scrubbing through the entire clip trying to figure out what I was referring to, or they would request me to send a screenshot of the precise moment I indicated. Since I wasn't charging for identifying these problems, that extra effort was somewhat frustrating. Fortunately, Google's latest update to Workspace has addressed this issue.

So how does it actually function?

Google Drive now includes timestamped comments for videos. While you review a video, you’ll notice a split button allowing you to select between a general comment and one tied to the exact moment you’re viewing.

When you provide a timestamped comment, it appears as a small marker on the video's timeline, enabling anyone reviewing the file later to click that marker, jump directly to that point, and see the related comment pop up automatically.

Essentially, this eliminates the guesswork involved in dragging the scrubber to identify where the feedback applies. All the features you expect from Workspace comments are still operational, including replying, resolving, editing, and tagging team members with an @ mention.

Who can access this feature, and what are its benefits?

Timestamped comments are accessible to all Google Workspace users in both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. This feature is available to Workspace Individual subscribers and users with personal Google accounts as well. It is enabled by default.

However, the limitation is that these timestamped notes can only be created on the web. Mobile users on iOS or Android can view them, but they appear as standard file comments instead of timeline markers.

To me, this feature eliminates the awkward back-and-forth of tracking timecodes in separate WhatsApp groups or Slack threads; it enhances the workflow for those relying on Google Drive for their daily editing and content creation.

From a broader perspective, this aligns with Google's ongoing efforts to close feature gaps with specialized review tools like Frame.io and Vimeo, which have already provided timestamped video feedback for quite some time.

Historically, Samsung has mainly adhered to conventional designs for its Galaxy Buds collection, with the bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live being the notable exception. However, that seems to be shifting as Samsung explores designs that its competitors have utilized for years. Just a day after leaked renders provided a first look at the clip-on Galaxy Buds On, another leak has revealed details about a forthcoming pair of Galaxy Buds aimed at fitness enthusiasts and athletes.
