Samsung's OLED technology provides the Ferrari Luce with a dashboard that is unprecedented in any vehicle.

Samsung Display has just showcased its top display technology not in a smartphone, but in a Ferrari.

Ferrari has recently revealed the Luce, its inaugural all-electric vehicle, which has sparked mixed reactions regarding its design. Crafted by former Apple design leader Jony Ive, the car certainly attracts attention, but not all of it is positive.

Despite the controversy surrounding its exterior, the interior of the car is undeniably unique. One of the most striking features is the futuristic display design.

The dashboard definitely deserves special mention. Samsung Display exclusively powers the Luce’s interior with four OLED panels, and their achievement here is truly impressive.

So, what makes this dashboard exceptional?

The highlight is the driver's binnacle, the area in front that presents speed and driving data. Ferrari and Samsung have stacked two OLED panels, featuring a 12-inch panel at the bottom and a 12.9-inch panel on top.

The upper panel includes three circular cutouts that allow visibility of the display below, while physical mechanical hands move within the space between the two panels. It appears digital, yet has an analogue feel, which is the intended effect. I have never seen this in any car before, and it's genuinely awe-inspiring.

The remaining two displays consist of a 10.1-inch panel located in the central control area, which also features mechanical hands turning through small cutouts in real-time, and a 6.3-inch screen for rear seat passengers to manage climate controls and view driving information.

I am also impressed by the buttons on the secondary display, allowing adjustments to fan speed, temperature, and seat heating. The way these physical buttons engage with the digital interface is incredibly cool.

      How did Samsung manage this?

Creating large openings in an active display area without compromising image quality is challenging. The hole in the Ferrari Luce’s binnacle is approximately 100mm across, which is about 20 times larger than the small front camera hole on smartphones. This makes it difficult to route signals around the opening without causing distortion or delays.

Samsung’s HIAA (Hole in Active Area) technology addresses this by optimizing each signal design individually, ensuring the image remains consistent and stable throughout the display, regardless of the size of the hole.

Whatever strategy Samsung implemented to achieve this clearly succeeded. I viewed some demonstrations of the car’s interior, and the displays appeared crisp and vivid. Who would have thought that one of the most exciting aspects of a brand new Ferrari's design in 2026 would be its dashboard?

Ferrari's first electric vehicle is here, and the Luce might be the brand's most debated car yet.

Ferrari has officially transitioned into the electric vehicle market with the introduction of the all-new Ferrari Luce, the company's first fully electric production car. Unveiled in Rome, the Luce represents one of the most significant changes the Maranello-based automaker has made since its founding in 1939.

For many years, Ferrari resisted the shift to full electrification. The company consistently maintained that emotion, sound, and driver engagement were essential to the Ferrari experience—qualities that enthusiasts believed could not be replicated without a combustion engine. Even as competitors like Porsche introduced EVs such as the Porsche Taycan and brands like Lamborghini began exploring electrification, Ferrari mainly concentrated on hybrids and conventional performance vehicles.

Citroën is reviving the iconic 2CV as an electric car priced below $18,000.

Finding affordable electric vehicles has become surprisingly difficult. However, Citroën is digging deep into its past for a solution. The company has recently confirmed that the cherished Citroën 2CV will return as a fully electric vehicle, more than thirty years after the original ceased production. Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon announced the comeback at a Stellantis investor event in Michigan, stating that the new 2CV will be fully electric, manufactured in Europe, and priced below €15,000, or approximately $17,400.

The people's car is going electric.
