Quick Overview
Whether you require a mode of transport for city travel or a way to enjoy the outdoors, the Gotrax Mustang is an excellent option. Its suspension system and wide tires provide a comfortable and stable ride, reaching speeds of up to 25 mph can be exhilarating, and a range of up to 85 miles is sufficient for a day out in many situations.
When the battery is depleted, it takes approximately five to six hours to recharge, but you can also swap in a spare battery. I tested the Gotrax Mustang on various bike paths, backroads, and urban streets, and the throttle was particularly beneficial in city settings, giving me the confidence to commute under various conditions. Plus, the Gotrax Mustang presents a stylish design, with its moped-inspired frame blurring the lines between bicycles and motor vehicles. Overall, it’s quite impressive.

Gotrax Mustang design and construction: Eye-catching, with some assembly required.
As with most electric bikes, the Gotrax Mustang does not come fully assembled. You'll need to attach the front handlebars, front wheel, pedals, and mudguards yourself. This is not a complicated task, and I was able to complete most of it with the provided toolkit. I didn’t refer to the manual very often as the process is quite straightforward. The wires that need connections only link to designated spots. Be cautious when inserting the front wheel, as you must position the brake caliper over the brake disk. Excessive force or improper placement could damage the caliper or the disk, which isn’t ideal.
One challenge arose towards the end—the factory secured the screw for the front fender so tightly that I couldn’t remove it with the included toolkit. By the end of the assembly, the toolkit, which consisted mainly of Allen wrenches, was wearing out, and applying much torque to that screw could have ruined it.
I ultimately had to use my reliable 18V Makita to unscrew it, though it still required effort. Nonetheless, one minor hiccup in bike assembly is not a major issue. The entire assembly took around two hours, but I was not rushing. Had I used the Makita from the start, I could have likely finished in half the time.
Once assembled, the Mustang is quite attractive. Without the pedals, it could easily be mistaken for a small bike from the 1960s. The moped-style frame provides rigidity, stability, and comfort in riding. The large front shocks are both visually appealing and significantly enhance ride comfort. I navigated poorly maintained roads, potholes, drain covers, and other obstacles with relative ease. With its suspension and fat tires, the bike enhances both comfort and stability.
While riding in inclement weather isn’t enjoyable, it felt safer on the Mustang. I rode through heavy rain and, despite getting thoroughly soaked due to poor clothing choices, the bike did not feel like it was at risk of skidding or losing traction. The deep treads on the large tires performed well.
However, the large gap in the center of the frame seems like a missed opportunity. A small basket is available (though not included with my model), but creative storage solutions could be developed for that area. At the very least, a spot to store a lock and chain along with a small toolkit would be beneficial.

There are numerous motivations for purchasing an electric bike, though many tend to focus on practical aspects. While it’s a good option for commuting, it’s also immensely fun. When I first assembled the bike, it was late in the day,
