Chuwi's UniBook is a $449 laptop that aims to rival the MacBook Neo by offering impressive features.
The MacBook Neo has just found a formidable competitor in the Windows arena.
In the budget range, Windows laptops typically excel in affordability. While there are some trade-offs, their accessibility has been a significant advantage. However, the ongoing memory shortage has led to price increases in various segments, negatively affecting their value. The introduction of the MacBook Neo has exacerbated the situation, with Apple emerging as an unexpectedly viable choice for those in search of a new entry-level laptop.
Chuwi is re-entering the Windows discussion with its latest offering, the UniBook. This new budget model is a 14-inch laptop that has even managed to undercut the MacBook Neo in price.
What sets it apart
Chuwi
The UniBook is powered by Intel’s Core 3 304, an entry-level Wildcat Lake processor featuring 5 cores, 5 threads, clock speeds of up to 4.3GHz, and an integrated Xe3 GPU. While this processor is not designed for gaming or creative tasks, it is well-suited for daily activities like work, browsing, writing, streaming, and educational assignments.
Additionally, Chuwi includes 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 256GB PCIe 3.0 SSD, matching the basic specifications of the MacBook Neo’s memory and storage on paper but priced at approximately $449. In contrast, Apple's MacBook Neo starts at $599 ($499 for students), which includes a 13-inch screen, A18 Pro chip, and impressive battery life. Thus, Chuwi is positioning the UniBook directly against Apple’s MacBook Neo by offering a lower price, more ports, and a larger display.
Ports are a strong point here

The primary advantage of the UniBook may lie in its practical features. Chuwi boasts two full-function USB-C ports, HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, a TF card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This contrasts sharply with Apple’s minimalist configuration, which emphasizes premium construction and superior software integration.
Other significant features include a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS display with 100% sRGB coverage, a white two-level backlit keyboard, a 180-degree hinge, active cooling, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Windows 11 Pro, and a 53.38Wh battery.
