Gemini 3.5 Flash is Google's latest default AI model, designed to take action rather than merely provide answers.

Gemini 3.5 Flash is Google's latest default AI model, designed to take action rather than merely provide answers.

Unveiled during I/O 2026, the model is crafted to manage intricate, multi-step workflows and is now operational across Google's consumer, developer, and enterprise platforms.

Google has consistently promoted the Flash models of Gemini as a quicker, more economical option compared to its main Pro tier. However, this changes with Gemini 3.5 Flash. Unveiled at I/O 2026, the new model surpasses Gemini 3.1 Pro in coding and agent benchmarks, with Google asserting that it achieves four times the speed of similar frontier models, “often at less than half the price.”

      Engineered for agents

Gemini 3.5 Flash is tailored for long-horizon agentic tasks, which encompass workflows requiring AI to strategize, create, and refine through several stages. Google asserts it can accomplish tasks that once required developers days or auditors weeks, in a fraction of that time.

Introducing Gemini 3.5 Flash — our most powerful model for agentic tasks and coding yet. It provides frontier-level performance at four times the speed of similar models — frequently at less than half the cost.       Notable benchmark results include 76.2% on Terminal-bench 2.1, 1656 Elo on GDPval-AA, and 83.6% on MCP Atlas. The model also achieves 84.2% on CharXiv Reasoning, a benchmark for multimodal understanding.

The model functions with Google’s Antigravity, an agent-first development platform, enabling the deployment of multiple subagents simultaneously to manage more strenuous workloads. For consumers, 3.5 Flash is now the standard model powering the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search.

It also fuels Gemini Spark, a new personal AI agent introduced by Google at I/O, designed to operate continuously on a user's behalf. Google is currently rolling out Spark to select testers, with a wider beta anticipated for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. next week.

      Rollout and availability

Gemini 3.5 Flash is now available globally through the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search for consumers, as well as via Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and Android Studio for developers. Enterprise customers can access it through both the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and Gemini Enterprise. Google has also confirmed that Gemini 3.5 Pro is undergoing internal testing and is expected to launch next month.

This release emphasizes agentic capabilities at the core of Google’s AI strategy. Instead of solely competing on which model can answer inquiries more accurately, Google is focusing on the next phase of AI involving models that can perform actions like scheduling appointments, coding, managing workflows, and more with minimal user input. With Gemini 3.5 Pro set to release next month, it will be intriguing to see how far Google intends to advance this vision.
