Chuwi's UniBook is a $449 laptop that aims to compete with the MacBook Neo by offering solid features.
The MacBook Neo has just gained a notable competitor in the Windows realm.
In the budget category, Windows laptops generally excel in pricing. Although they have some trade-offs, accessibility has always been a significant advantage. However, the ongoing memory shortage has led to price increases in various segments, affecting their overall value. The introduction of the MacBook Neo worsened the situation, as Apple unexpectedly emerged as a strong contender for those in search of a new entry-level laptop.
Now, Chuwi is keeping Windows prominent in the conversation with its latest offering, the UniBook. This new budget model features a 14-inch display and has even succeeded in underpricing the MacBook Neo.
What sets it apart
Chuwi
The UniBook is powered by Intel’s Core 3 304, an entry-level Wildcat Lake processor with 5 cores and 5 threads, boasting clock speeds of up to 4.3GHz and a basic Xe3 integrated GPU. While it's not designed for gaming or high-end creative tasks, it focuses on typical activities like work, internet browsing, writing, streaming, and educational assignments.
Chuwi pairs this with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 256GB PCIe 3.0 SSD, aligning with the basic specifications of the MacBook Neo in terms of memory and storage, all for an estimated price of $449. In comparison, Apple’s MacBook Neo starts at $599 ($499 for students), featuring a 13-inch screen, A18 Pro chip, and impressive battery life. Therefore, Chuwi is directly targeting Apple’s MacBook Neo, offering a more affordable option with additional ports and a larger display.
Ports are a significant feature here
MacBook Neo Apple
The UniBook's primary advantage might be its practicality. Chuwi offers two fully functional USB-C ports, HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, a TF card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This is a stark contrast to Apple’s minimalist approach, which features a premium build along with superior software integration.
Other impressive features include a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS display with 100% sRGB coverage, a white two-level backlit keyboard, a 180-degree hinge, active cooling, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Windows 11 Pro, and a 53.38Wh battery.
