The numbers are impressive
The variant intended for the US is designated as the C400 4Matic and comes equipped with a 94.5-kWh battery pack that powers two electric motors. The total power output reaches 482 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. The top speed is limited to 130 mph. The range adds an intriguing element to the equation; while Mercedes has not published official EPA figures, estimates suggest around 400 miles for the US cycle, based on the European WLTP rating of 473 miles. This positions it competitively among performance-oriented luxury sedans.

The electric C-Class is built on a specially designed EV platform, and this is evident in its proportions. The wheelbase has been extended by 3.8 inches compared to the current gasoline variant, resulting in increased legroom for both front and rear passengers. The shift to an electric powertrain also allows for a front trunk offering 3.5 cubic feet of space, while the rear trunk provides a generous 16.6 cubic feet. For those needing towing capabilities, the vehicle can handle loads up to 3,968 pounds. Additionally, the sedan boasts a drag coefficient of 0.22, which is notably better than the electric GLC’s 0.26. This aerodynamic advantage is a significant factor in enabling the C-Class to achieve greater distance per charge compared to its crossover counterpart. Moreover, the C400 4Matic supports DC fast charging at rates of up to 330 kW, providing approximately 200 miles of additional range in just 10 minutes, with a 10-to-80-percent charge taking about 22 minutes. It also maintains compatibility with older 400-volt infrastructure using a standard DC converter.

Three distinct dashboard configurations are available, depending on your preference for screen size. The top-tier option is the Hyperscreen, a nearly 39-inch seamless glass display that spans almost the entire width of the interior. The Superscreen option features a 10.3-inch gauge cluster alongside two 14-inch touchscreens under a single sheet of glass. Base models replace the passenger-side screen with an animated decorative panel. An available package includes air suspension with predictive damping that utilizes data from Google Maps to prepare the chassis for bumps before they are encountered. Rear-wheel steering can also be added, enabling the rear axle to rotate up to 4.5 degrees at low speeds, which reduces the turning circle to 36.7 feet. For those looking for a dramatic touch, an optional panoramic roof comes with 162 illuminated stars.

Additional variants are planned as well. Mercedes has confirmed the development of a rear-wheel-drive single-motor version with an estimated range of approximately 497 miles. Pricing for any variants in the US has yet to be revealed, and the existing gasoline C-Class will remain available alongside the electric version for buyers who are not yet ready to transition. Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius stated that this vehicle elevates everything customers appreciate about the C-Class to new heights. Whether this will translate to real-world performance is yet to be determined, but on paper, the electric C-Class appears to be an advancement.
