      Lynk & Co's newly introduced 900V battery and fast charging technology surpasses BYD in charging speeds, but actual performance and the extent of the charging network will be the critical factors.

      Just a month after BYD, the Chinese automaker, announced its new Blade Battery 2.0 and flash charging system, competitor Geely has already raised the standard. Lynk & Co, a subsidiary of Geely, has revealed that its 900V Energee Golden Brick Battery provides even faster charging outcomes.

      Geely takes the lead in charging speeds

      Lynk & Co has introduced its 10 and 10+ electric sedans, both designed to demonstrate its new fast-charging capabilities. As reported by CarNewsChina, official testing data from the company indicates that the Lynk & Co 10 can charge from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes and 22 seconds, and from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 42 seconds. In comparison, BYD’s flash charging technology achieved these levels in 5 minutes and 9 minutes, respectively. While the difference is minor, it positions Geely ahead, at least on paper.

      The vehicles themselves also merit attention. The standard Lynk & Co 10 has a pre-sale price ranging from $29,000 to $33,000, placing it in direct competition with the Xiaomi SU7 while offering a better deal than BYD’s Z9GT. The 10+ model, which is the performance version, boasts 912hp and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds; however, Geely has yet to disclose its pricing.

      What’s the downside?

      As with most impressive figures, Geely’s metrics stem from controlled testing using Zeekr’s V4 ultra-fast chargers, meaning that real-life performance may differ. Additionally, Geely’s public charging network is significantly smaller than BYD’s, with only around 2,100 stations available in China compared to BYD’s 5,000, which aims for a total of 20,000 stations by year’s end.

      Chinese electric vehicle leaders are competing on two levels: battery innovation and charging infrastructure. Currently, Geely has the advantage in terms of speed, whereas BYD excels in scale. If Geely manages to close the gap in infrastructure, it could pose a serious challenge to BYD’s leadership. Until then, having the fastest charging capabilities is of little value if the charging stations are insufficient.
