A new render of the Galaxy S27 Ultra suggests a significant redesign of its camera and the introduction of built-in magnetic charging.
Samsung is reportedly working on a comprehensive camera layout revamp for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, giving us a glimpse into its potential design. Well-known leaker Ice Universe has released a sketch that reportedly depicts the fundamental rear configuration of Samsung’s upcoming Ultra flagship, based on CAD specifications.
I must say, this isn't exactly what I envisioned. Earlier reports indicated Samsung was leaning towards a horizontal camera arrangement, which made me think of the Galaxy S10's sleek visor-like camera strip. Instead, the sketch indicates a design more akin to what Apple has done with the iPhone 17 Pro.

I had hoped that Samsung would take inspiration from its own history.
Samsung has featured individual camera rings on its flagship models for multiple generations, so any major alteration would set the Galaxy S27 Ultra apart from its predecessors. However, a return to a design reminiscent of the Galaxy S10 would have provided a blend of both novelty and familiarity.
The sketch indicates that Samsung is stepping away from the separate camera rings, but the larger protruding camera section diverges significantly from the slim visor style I was anticipating. Naturally, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is still several months from its release, and this is merely an unofficial sketch based on leaked data. The final product may well have a different appearance.
At least the magnetic charging speculation appears promising.
One aspect of the sketch that pleases me is the presence of a circular magnetic ring underneath the camera area, reinforcing reports that Samsung may finally incorporate built-in Qi2 magnets into the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Previous discussions suggested that this camera redesign might be linked to this specific enhancement. Samsung’s current camera positioning reportedly complicates the integration of magnetic hardware, which could clarify the rationale behind such a substantial redesign.
While the Galaxy S26 Ultra already supports Qi2 wireless charging, users still need a compatible magnetic case to utilize MagSafe-style chargers, wallets, stands, and battery packs. Built-in magnets would eliminate that necessity. If Ice Universe's sketch accurately represents the final device, Samsung might finally provide the magnetic charging upgrade I've long anticipated. I just wish the surrounding camera redesign resembled Samsung’s previous designs more closely.

In addition to a major design overhaul, rumors indicate that Samsung might also be exploring two different sizes for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which could result in a more expansive Galaxy S27 lineup than we are accustomed to. Tipster Sonny Dickson has revealed two CAD models that seem to represent differently sized Galaxy S27 Ultra devices. Ice Universe has also commented on this leak; however, it remains unclear if both models belong to the Ultra series or if the smaller version is the expected Galaxy S27 Pro. If Samsung is indeed planning two Ultra sizes, there’s a clear rationale behind this decision.
