Ultrahuman’s most significant update to date replaces charts with real advice.

Ultrahuman is launching Emerald today, marking its most significant platform update in four years. If you have an Ultrahuman Ring Air, Ring Pro, or any other health devices from the brand, your app will soon have a new look and feel.

What is UltraSphere, and why is it important?

The highlight of this update is UltraSphere, a decision-making engine that Ultrahuman claims is a first for smart rings. Instead of presenting another chart, it takes center stage on the home screen and offers more than 60 Next Best Actions based on your sleep, recovery, heart rate variability (HRV), stress levels, movement, and glucose data if you're using the M1 or M2 CGM.

These suggestions adapt based on your location, the weather, and your circadian rhythm, ensuring that a traveler experiencing jet lag receives different advice compared to a new parent. Some examples provided by Ultrahuman include a prompt to go outside shortly after waking to reset your body clock or a warning that consuming caffeine beyond a certain time may disrupt your sleep later.

Mohit Kumar, CEO of Ultrahuman, discussed the rationale behind this change. “All wearable trackers produce data. While data can be empowering, people require more than just numbers; they want to know what actions to take. The Emerald Update aims to make data actionable, incorporating layers of biointelligence that address the question of 'so what?' with context and insights at every level.”

What other changes come with this update?

Ultrahuman is introducing a crucial feature for frequent travelers and anyone in areas without a signal. It can now perform all processing on the device itself, ensuring that your recovery score, stress rhythm, and Next Best Actions continue to function with no connectivity.

Workout tracking also receives an enhancement, with improved automatic detection and heart rate accuracy verified against top-tier devices. If you prefer using an Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, or even AirPods Pro Gen 3 for workouts, you can now directly integrate that data into the app instead of relying solely on the ring.

VO2 Max, a key indicator of long-term health, has also been improved. Ultrahuman states that the updated algorithm is now within 5 mL per kg per minute of actual lab results, tested with over 100 athletes.

There is much more included, such as a new Longevity tab for metrics like UltraAge and Brain Age, a Sleep Screener that consolidates your nightly signals into a single report, and the ability to share cycle and ovulation data with a partner.

      Should you update?

The Emerald update is being rolled out globally starting today, making it unnecessary to skip it. What I appreciate most is that this update comes at no additional cost. It’s a free update that genuinely enhances the overall experience.
