      The OLED MacBook Air is expected to debut in 2028, while the iMac's release is still some time away.

      Previous reports suggested that Apple aims to unveil redesigned MacBook Pros featuring touchscreen OLED displays by the end of this year or early next year. However, Apple’s ambitions for OLED in its Macs extend beyond this.

      Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is developing OLED versions of both the MacBook Air and iMac, confirming earlier supply chain indications about these devices. This information comes from sources familiar with Apple's plans, although neither device seems close to launch.

      The OLED MacBook Air is projected to launch as early as 2028.

      According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on an OLED MacBook Air targeted for 2028, aligning with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s earlier estimates of either 2028 or 2029.

      Before that launch, Apple is said to be refreshing the current 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models by early next year. These updated models, referred to by their internal codes J913 and J915, are expected to maintain a design similar to the existing ones, indicating that the OLED upgrade will come later and be more significant.

      The interval between the introduction of OLED MacBook Pro and MacBook Air is not unexpected. OLED screens are costly, and to keep the Air reasonably priced, Apple has limited flexibility to absorb rising production costs. The increasing prices for memory have further complicated the situation, leading the company to raise prices across its Mac lineup, including the MacBook Air.

      The OLED iMac is still further down the line.

      Bloomberg also reports that Apple is developing an iMac with an OLED display, but there is no specified launch date. The phrasing implies it is situated further along the roadmap compared to the OLED MacBook Air.

      Earlier reports have suggested that development may conclude around 2027 or 2028, with Apple considering 24-inch panels from Samsung Display and LG Display. Separately, TrendForce has indicated that upcoming OLED iMac panels could achieve 95% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut.

      Currently, Apple is working on regular iMac updates set for this fall. Bloomberg indicates that development for these models is finalized, but the OLED variant remains a distinct project that is several years away.
