Zipline is starting a healthcare drone delivery service in partnership with Cleveland Clinic. It has recruited former employees from Tesla and Waymo to help expand the initiative.
Zipline's marketplace saw a 13-fold increase in the first half of 2026, reaching 2.5 million deliveries. The company operates more daily flights than major airlines and is set to launch a healthcare delivery service in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic. Zipline reported that the number of businesses utilizing its delivery app grew 13 times in just the first half of 2026. The autonomous drone delivery service has completed over 2.5 million commercial deliveries, with one million occurring in the past year, claiming to conduct more daily flights than major U.S. airlines, around 70% of which occur in the U.S.
The company is entering two new markets. In Cleveland, Zipline will initiate its first healthcare home delivery service with Cleveland Clinic, providing prescriptions at no extra cost to eligible patients in the Beachwood area. The program plans to expand to include lab samples, medically tailored meals, and hospital-at-home supplies. In Austin, customers will have the option to receive food and retail deliveries from local businesses in as little as five minutes.
To support this growth, Zipline has recruited three executives. Sendil Palani has come on board as CFO after 17 years at Tesla, where he was VP of Finance. Kevin Vosen joins as the new Chief Legal Officer after nearly seven years at Waymo. Allen Penn, who contributed to Uber's growth from 25 employees to over 25,000 and led global operations at Uber Eats, has taken the role of Head of Commercial. The evolution of drone delivery from a suburban novelty to a competitive infrastructure is further highlighted by Zipline's executive recruitment, indicating the company is gearing up for a scale akin to that of ride-hailing rather than traditional logistics.
The marketplace growth is notably specific. Wonder plans to implement Zipline delivery in 50 new Texas food halls, while Little Caesars is increasing its presence from five to 65 Zipline locations. Chipotle is already part of the platform, alongside various local restaurants. Zipline has logged over 135 million autonomous miles and delivered 20 million items without any safety incidents, a distance comparable to driving every road in America 32 times. As regulatory transparency and commercial demand align, drone startups across various sectors are scaling rapidly, and Zipline's healthcare initiative with Cleveland Clinic introduces a new application that extends well beyond food delivery.
