The Fold 8 Ultra might finally feature Samsung's top cameras.
Improved low-light performance, Video LUT, dual recording, and S26 Ultra-grade resolution.
The primary criticism of every Galaxy Z Fold model, including the Fold 7 that was released last year, has remained the same: excellent phone, subpar cameras.
Samsung has traditionally allocated its top camera technology to the Galaxy S Ultra series, leaving Fold users with a somewhat diminished experience. However, a recent leak suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra might change this trend.
According to Korean leaker Lanzuk (via Naver), who cites internal carrier information with alleged 100% accuracy, the Fold 8 Ultra is set to adopt significant camera features from Samsung's flagship device, the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Lanzuk mentions that the Fold 8 Ultra may offer "improved camera resolution," possibly indicating a higher-resolution telephoto or ultrawide sensor, significantly enhanced low-light capabilities, and video LUT support for professional-style color grading straight from the camera app.
Additionally, the Fold Ultra might include native front-and-back dual recording functionality.
For context, the S26 Ultra already excels in low-light photography compared to most smartphones available today. Integrating that Nightography technology into a foldable device would genuinely be an upgrade, in my view.
Why does this matter beyond the usual specifications increase?
Firstly, camera quality has been a limiting factor for foldables for years. Those seeking the best photography on a Samsung device typically choose a Galaxy S Ultra.
This trade-off has been a conscious strategy by Samsung, and this leak indicates that the company is finally ready to break this pattern, at least in the Ultra segment. However, whether this change comes from a consumer-friendly approach or is simply a way to justify a higher launch price will be clearer soon.
Lanzuk also clarifies that these enhancements are specific to the Fold 8 Ultra and not the standard Fold 8, which is anticipated to be available in a new Pistachio color. All details will be revealed on July 22, 2026.
