The recent update for Google Home simplifies the process of initiating automations.
With the release of version 4.20, the app will provide pre-made automations that you can activate easily with a tap.
Google is introducing a new set of updates to Gemini for Home and the Google Home app, with a key change aimed at encouraging more users to explore automation features. The latest version of the Google Home app includes several pre-built routines in the Automations tab, allowing users to select an option and activate it with a single tap rather than having to create one from scratch.
No more starting from square one
Previously, configuring an automation in Google Home required users to choose their own triggers, conditions, and actions, which could be overwhelming for those less familiar with technology. This complexity is one reason why many Google Home users avoid automations altogether.

The new functionality is intended to simplify the onboarding process for new users by providing ready-to-use automations for common scenarios such as home security, morning routines, or energy conservation. In a support page describing the feature, Google notes that users can modify the suggested automations to better suit their needs or disregard any suggestions that they find unhelpful.
Smarter responses, smoother interactions
In addition to the suggested automations, Gemini for Home is receiving some enhancements. Weather forecasts and general knowledge responses on smart displays will now feature updated visual cards, offering a sleeker, more refined appearance on screen. Sports enthusiasts will also benefit from improved accuracy in scores, schedules, and team standings.
The Continued Conversation feature in Gemini has become more dependable as well. Google indicates that users should no longer experience interruptions from a voice verification prompt during consecutive commands and follow-up questions. A range of minor features and bug fixes also accompany the update, which includes a dedicated light toggle embedded in the camera view for the onn Outdoor Camera Plug-in and onn Floodlight Camera Hardwired, along with better device setup for older Nest cameras.

Roborock brought the excitement of the FIFA World Cup to Miami, and I had the chance to be part of the experience.
World Cup enthusiasm has taken over Miami, and I felt a taste of it at the iconic Aventura Mall. The robotic vacuum brand Roborock hosted a pop-up event throughout the weekend, inviting attendees to engage in games, win prizes, and learn about the company's latest products. The event, titled "Your Home, Your Stadium," was organized in partnership with Roborock’s affiliations with Real Madrid and the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Consequently, there was an abundance of Real Madrid memorabilia on exhibit, including a jersey signed by French striker Kylian Mbappe. On the final day of the event, Real Madrid and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos was there to meet fans.

Apple Home AI features come with a concealed cost
Your cameras are now smarter, but so is Apple's upselling strategy.
I previously reported on the new Apple Home AI features unveiled at WWDC 2026, which encompass several enhancements for user experience, such as automatic updates for notifications, improved camera search capabilities, automatic tracking and compilation of multiple videos for a single event, and higher-resolution recordings, among other benefits. However, like many Apple Home functionalities, these features are exclusively available to iCloud+ subscribers. At the event, Apple did not specify which plans would have access to these features. Today, we find that information in the release notes of macOS Golden Gate beta 3, and it may not be well-received.
