Google Photos can now transform your regular videos into AI-created masterpieces.

Google's new Video Remix tool utilizes Gemini to relight, restyle, and even change backgrounds with just a few taps.

Google has enhanced Photos with another feature powered by Gemini. The company has unveiled Video Remix, an AI-driven editing tool that can convert standard video clips into stylized versions with minimal effort. Google states that this feature enables users to easily transform existing videos using creative AI effects within Google Photos, eliminating the need for professional editing skills.

Think of it as Photo Remix, but tailored for videos.

Accessible through the Create tab in Google Photos, Video Remix employs Gemini Omni to implement AI-driven transformations on existing video clips. Users can select a creative template, and Gemini will produce a new version of the clip featuring a wholly different appearance and style, rather than manually trimming footage or layering effects.

The effects available extend well beyond basic filters. Video Remix can enhance poorly lit footage with cinematic relighting, replace plain backgrounds with entirely new settings, or transform videos into artistic renditions with styles like watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting. Google provides examples such as adding a morning glow to a video, placing individuals in a greenhouse, or converting clips into dreamy watercolor art.

However, there are some restrictions. Video Remix presently only supports video clips of up to 10 seconds in length, while longer recordings must be trimmed before the AI can create a new version. The processing time may also take a few minutes, depending on the edit.

Launching first for Google AI subscribers.

Video Remix is being rolled out today for qualified Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in select regions, including India, the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and others.

The release is part of Google's ongoing effort to integrate Gemini more deeply into Photos. Over the past year, the app has added AI-enhanced image editing, improved search capabilities, and creative tools for photos. Video Remix extends this concept to videos, focusing less on traditional editing and more on allowing AI to completely reinvent how a familiar clip appears—all without leaving Google Photos.

Google’s Photos app now gives Android users another point of envy towards iPhone users.

A redesign of Google Photos that debuted on iOS a few months ago is now reaching Android through version 7.82.

The Android version of Google Photos is finally receiving the cleaner bottom navigation bar that iOS users have enjoyed since February. It's odd to note this for an app by Google on its own mobile platform, but it’s true. The update replaces the previous docked bar with a floating pill that rests above the bottom edge of the screen. This change no longer obscures the photos below and positions the Gemini-powered Ask Photos alongside the primary navigation.

Is the Galaxy Z Flip 8 potentially Samsung’s final compact foldable? A new leak suggests it might be.

Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its event in London on July 22. However, ahead of the launch, insider Ice Universe has made an unexpected claim: the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be Samsung's last compact foldable. This rumor seems difficult to accept at first. While the Fold models garner substantial attention due to their tablet-like displays, the Flip series has always appeared to be the more mainstream choice. It’s compact, easier to transport, and generally less expensive than the Fold. More importantly, it’s a phone that tends to draw more attention in everyday situations.

The compact design, the cover display, and even the "cute factor" have helped Samsung attract buyers who might overlook a bulkier foldable. In my experience, I've encountered significantly more Flip phones in the wild than Fold models. That doesn’t imply that the Fold isn’t popular; rather, the Flip appears to resonate with a wider audience.

The Halide 3.1 update introduces straighter photos, a warmer tone, and smarter focus tapping.

A few weeks post-launch, Halide is already enhancing its features with new tools and a warmer aesthetic.

Smartphone photography has devolved into an overly processed state, often prioritizing algorithms over genuine appeal. I recently came across an Instagram comparison of photos taken with the iPhone 6 versus those from the iPhone 17 Pro, and honestly, I preferred some of the shots from the decade-old camera. This trend is part of the reason apps like Halide are gaining popularity.
