The price increase for Google's Pixel 11 might be presented as a storage enhancement.
Google has begun sending out invitations for its upcoming Made by Google event set for August 12. The Pixel 11 series is anticipated to be the main focus of the event, and if recent price leaks are reliable, consumers might need to brace themselves for a higher launch price this year.
As reported by Dealabs, the Pixel 11 series will not start with 128GB of storage anymore. Instead, Google is expected to make 256GB the new standard storage option for the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Additionally, prices seem to be increasing by 100 euros across all models.
So, what exactly is changing?
The standard Pixel 11 is priced at 999 euros for the 256GB variant, while the Pixel 11 Pro is reported to have a starting price of 1,199 euros. The Pixel 11 Pro XL is listed at 1,399 euros, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at 1,999 euros.

In comparison to the Pixel 10 series, the initial pricing appears to be approximately 100 euros higher for the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro. However, Google is also introducing 256GB as the new base storage option instead of the previous 128GB.
Another perspective is to compare the 256GB launch prices of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, which suggests the leaked prices for the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro remain the same. This indicates that Google may not be increasing the price for the same storage capacity on these two models; rather, it could be eliminating the less expensive 128GB variant and establishing 256GB as the new starting storage.
The Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, however, seem to be experiencing a straightforward 100-euro increase across all storage options.
What is motivating Google's decision?
This tactic has been employed by other companies as the costs of components rise. Apple, for example, recently removed the 256GB Mac mini from its offerings, which effectively raised the entry price of its Mac mini from $599 to $799 without labeling it as a price increase.
For Google, the rationale is quite evident. As RAM and NAND storage chips become more costly, offering a budget 128GB model becomes less appealing. Instead of increasing the price of that version, Google can eliminate it and position the 256GB model as the entry-level option.

For consumers, this still translates to a higher initial expenditure. However, they are also receiving greater storage, which may soften the blow of the price increase compared to a direct hike for the same configuration. It also streamlines the product lineup. With fewer storage options, there are fewer variants to manufacture, ship, stock, and promote, which could help safeguard profit margins.
Currently, price increases in consumer electronics seem increasingly inevitable. Apple has already raised costs on certain products, and there are rumors that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will also be considerably more expensive. Google’s strategy might be viewed as one of the less painful methods to manage this increase, at least regarding the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro.
