Claude Cowork can continue functioning even when you shut your laptop.
Anthropic has now disconnected Claude Cowork from your laptop, enabling it to operate in the background on web and mobile platforms.
Anthropic’s Claude Cowork feature has been linked to your desktop since its inception. However, starting today, the company is broadening Cowork's capabilities to include web and mobile access. Subscribers to the Max plan will receive early beta access in the coming days, with other plans expected to follow in the weeks ahead.
If you’re unfamiliar with Cowork, the concept is straightforward. You assign Claude a task, and it navigates through your files, inbox, calendar, and additional connected tools until completion. Previously, if you closed your laptop, the task would cease. That is no longer the case.
Your laptop is no longer a limiting factor.
Previously, Claude Cowork relied on your desktop's background operation, making some lengthy tasks difficult to complete. Closing your laptop would halt the task, but the recent update resolves that issue, allowing Claude to work via the cloud and your phone.
Now, you can initiate a task from your desk and monitor its progress later from your mobile device, no matter your location. Scheduled tasks now function in the cloud, so you can shut your laptop and enjoy a nap while Claude continues its work.
However, Claude will not act autonomously without your approval. When it encounters a decision that requires your input, it will notify you, and no actions will be taken without your consent.
What are users actually utilizing Cowork for?
With the launch of its latest Claude Cowork feature, Anthropic disclosed some usage statistics that may come as a surprise.
If, like me, you assumed that Claude Cowork was predominantly used by software developers, you might be mistaken. Anthropic reports that over 90% of its usage stems from daily tasks, including business operations and content creation.
This is a significant statistic, indicating that AI agents are increasingly accessible to individuals beyond just coders. They are rapidly evolving into useful tools for anyone overwhelmed with spreadsheets, emails, and presentations. If you've ever wanted to delegate the tedious aspects of your job, this update enhances that possibility.
I’m eager to see how this expansion to web and mobile affects the usage numbers even further. Once users realize they are not restricted to a laptop for Cowork, I anticipate an increased shift of everyday work to Claude.

Google’s Pixel 11 may face price increases, potentially justified by a storage upgrade.
Google has begun distributing invitations for its upcoming Made by Google event, set for August 12. The Pixel 11 series is anticipated to be the highlight, and if the latest pricing rumors are correct, consumers might have to brace for a price hike this year.
According to Dealabs, the Pixel 11 lineup may no longer start at 128GB storage. Reports suggest that Google will establish 256GB as the new base storage for the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, with prices reportedly increasing by 100 euros across all models.
Are your iPhone shortcuts disappearing quietly? iOS 27 introduces a way to recover them.
For those who heavily rely on Apple's Shortcuts app, there’s a good chance some of your automations may have vanished without notice. They likely exist in iCloud but are not displayed in your library. iOS 27 is addressing this issue.
The beta version of iOS 27 includes a new Restore button located under Settings > Apps > Shortcuts. When the system detects automations on your device that aren’t currently visible in your library, it shows a notification: "X shortcuts on this device aren't currently in your library."
