Are your iPhone shortcuts vanishing silently? iOS 27 has introduced a method to restore them.
There's finally a button that resolves the issue.
If you frequently utilize Apple’s Shortcuts app, there's a good chance that some of your automations have disappeared without your knowledge. They likely still exist somewhere in iCloud, yet are not visible in your library. iOS 27 is addressing this problem.
The Beta 3 version of iOS 27 introduces a new Restore button found under Settings > Apps > Shortcuts. When the system identifies automations on your device that aren't present in your library, it shows a message: “X shortcuts on this device aren’t currently in your library.”
The restore button effectively resolves a frustrating issue.
Clicking Restore brings all these automations back into your “All Shortcuts” view (unsorted) right away, without the need to navigate iCloud settings, manually re-import, or sift through backups (as noted by Matthew Cassinelli).
For context, the sync problem with Shortcuts has been significant. Matthew Cassinelli, a leading expert in Shortcuts, discovered over 200 automations that needed restoration when he tested the new button. He was unaware of when or how they had vanished from his library.
Some appeared as duplicates, marked with a “1” appended to the name, indicating iCloud sync issues. To be fair, Cassinelli had been managing around “up to 4,000 shortcuts,” making his experience more extreme than most users.
Why is this relevant for typical iPhone users?
The fact that even a skilled user couldn't discern something was amiss speaks volumes about the silent nature of this bug and the frustration it causes.
Most casual Shortcuts users might not encounter this issue. However, anyone who has developed a substantial library, crafted morning routines, set up home automation triggers, configured Focus Modes, and created workflows has been operating without a reliable safety net for years.
When a sync disruption occurs, automations can vanish, and previously, the only way to recover them was to start from scratch. Having a restore function at the operating system level changes that entirely.
