      Brave has introduced Containers to its desktop browser, providing users with a convenient way to separate various accounts, sessions, and browsing activities. This feature is available in Brave version 1.92 for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and it will be rolled out in stages over the coming days.

      Containers have been in high demand, especially among users who frequently toggle between work, personal, developer, or creator accounts. Once activated, this feature allows users to open tabs in isolated spaces where cookies and site storage remain exclusive to that container.

      What Containers can do

      The primary purpose of this feature is to maintain different browsing identities separately. For instance, someone managing social media accounts can remain logged into two different accounts on the same platform simultaneously. A developer can test an application as an administrator in one tab and as a standard user in another. An individual logged into a work Google account can access YouTube in a separate container, ensuring that activity remains distinct from their work session.

      Brave emphasizes that Containers should be seen as a convenience and workflow enhancement rather than a significant new privacy feature. The browser already employs storage partitioning to isolate sites and third-party requests, which aids in reducing cross-site tracking. Containers are designed to give users more authority over how individual sites perceive them across various tabs. Users can activate the feature from Brave’s settings menu and then right-click a tab, select “Open in container,” and choose a container category.

      Firefox has a comparable capability

      Brave is not the first browser to provide this sort of tab isolation. Firefox has long offered Multi-Account Containers through an official extension, and various Firefox-based browsers, such as LibreWolf, Floorp, and Zen Browser, also support container-style workflows.

      What's noteworthy is that Brave is bringing Containers to a Chromium-based browser. Until now, users who desired this type of tab isolation had to turn to Firefox or Firefox-related alternatives. This has been a source of frustration for those who appreciate Containers but prefer Chromium, as many websites are primarily designed and tested around Chrome-like browsers.
