X introduces a hosted MCP server to allow AI tools to connect directly to its API.
TL;DRX has introduced a hosted MCP server that allows AI tools like Claude and Cursor to connect directly to its API, joining the ranks of GitHub, Slack, and Stripe in offering MCP capabilities. X has launched its own hosted Model Context Protocol server, enabling AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, and Grok Build to interface with its API using user account permissions. This update removes the need for developers to integrate the system themselves, as prior solutions required building a custom MCP server and managing authentication. X's initiative aligns with other platforms like GitHub, Slack, Notion, Stripe, and Salesforce that now provide official MCP endpoints.
MCP, an open standard introduced by Anthropic in late 2024, outlines how AI models connect with external tools and services. With X's hosted server, developers can now access the platform more easily without the overhead of constructing their own MCP solutions. While the hosted server does not introduce new API functions, existing capabilities such as searching posts, reading timelines, and analyzing conversations are now better integrated for AI applications.
X is launching two MCP servers: one for standard API access and another that grants AI tools direct access to X's developer documentation, allowing them to reference API specifications and integration guides programmatically within development workflows.
Concerns over spam are prevalent, as reducing infrastructure barriers may facilitate exploitative automated posting. X assures that its API guidelines remain in force and that the hosted MCP does not override current spam restrictions. Earlier this year, X updated its API v2 to tackle AI-generated spam, particularly automated responses. It also raised the cost of publishing a post through the API to 1.5 cents and the cost of sharing a link to 20 cents, aimed at mitigating misuse.
Overall trends show that many platforms are launching official MCP servers, transforming what used to be a developer-centric task into formalized infrastructure. For X, the strategy is to establish itself as a real-time data source for AI agents, which they assess as more beneficial than the potential spam issues arising from easier data access.
