The Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be launching soon, with significant upgrades having recently been revealed.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is finally set to receive upgrades to its battery and charging speeds.
For the last two years, Samsung has introduced its flagship foldable smartphones in July, with the anticipated 8-series foldables expected to launch in the latter part of the month. This time, it seems Samsung is planning to release three foldables instead of the typical two, which includes the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to retain the familiar tall design seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be more intriguing, as it's anticipated to adopt a shorter and wider profile. Before the official launch, alleged specifications for this model have emerged via a post by SamMobile on X.
A wider Fold with smaller displays
According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will come equipped with a 5.5-inch cover display featuring a 16:10 aspect ratio, alongside a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Both displays are rumored to be 120Hz OLED panels.
Samsung's shift in its foldable strategy coincides with rumors of Apple preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone, which is also expected to feature a shorter and wider form factor with a 4:3 inner display.
This 4:3 inner display may give the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a tablet-like feel, differing from Samsung's earlier Fold models. A wider configuration should enhance reading, browsing, photo viewing, multitasking, and document handling.
The leak also suggests that this phone will be lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 201 grams, and measuring 9.7mm when folded, which is nearly a millimeter thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Will battery and charging finally see improvements?
Internally, the phone is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, complemented by 12GB of RAM and storage options of up to 1TB. The camera setup might be more contentious, as the leak notes only two rear cameras: a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultrawide. Recently leaked case renders also indicate just two camera cutouts on the back, making it seem less likely that a dedicated telephoto camera will be included in this model.
The most significant upgrade could be in battery and charging, as the tweet mentions a 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging, a notable increase compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 4,400mAh battery and 25W wired charging. This improvement addresses one of the series' long-standing drawbacks. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is rumored to maintain the 25W wired charging.

Motorola's next Edge phone might make Android's magnetic charging moment more affordable than Google's offering.
The Motorola Edge 70 Max could incorporate Qi2 wireless charging technology, joining Google Pixels and Apple iPhones in providing magnetic charging capabilities. Despite some challenges in the rollout of Android's Qi2, this upcoming Edge phone might be the first to bring it to a non-flagship device.
A Wireless Power Consortium listing has uncovered details about the Motorola Edge 70 Max, and additional leaks have revealed more specifications and features, along with promotional materials showing magnetic Qi2 in action.
Google has begun testing Gmail Live, its new voice search feature for inbox management.
This feature allows users to ask questions about their inbox using their voice and is scheduled for rollout later this summer.
During this year’s I/O event, Google presented Gmail Live, a new Gemini-powered functionality enabling users to search their inbox vocally instead of typing. This feature is now in testing, as 9to5Google reports that it’s being rolled out to a select group of Android and iOS users this week.
