Trustpilot argues that verified human reviews provide the necessary layer of trust for AI to make reliable recommendations.

      "The rise of AI is transforming how consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase products," stated CEO Adrian Blair. "Shopify merchants will now have the opportunity to build trust with customers during the decision-making process."

      The partnership is non-exclusive. Trustpilot mentioned in March its intent to seek integrations in banking, insurance, utilities, and other ecommerce sectors. The Shopify collaboration is the first announcement and serves as a model for future initiatives.

      While Shopify merchants have previously displayed third-party reviews through apps, native integrations are seen as more significant, benefiting both AI algorithms that analyze product pages and consumers who increasingly doubt unverified ratings.       Additionally, this timing highlights growing concerns about review authenticity. The increase in AI-generated fake reviews has raised alarms, and Trustpilot has branded its verification systems as a safeguard against such issues, having eliminated over four million fraudulent reviews in the past fiscal year using its machine-learning detection tools.

      Trustpilot's stock has seen significant growth this year, with Bloomberg reporting a 46 percent rise year-to-date, and the company announced an operating profit of $16 million in FY25, marking its first profitable year after several years of losses. Revenue increased by 19 percent to $211 million.

      The sustainability of the AI-search growth is still uncertain. The reported 1,490 percent rise comes from a small baseline, and the company has not revealed what percentage of its total traffic is generated from AI sources. It is apparent that Trustpilot is focusing its next growth phase on becoming the go-to source for AI when determining product or merchant trustworthiness.
