Seedcamp secures $320 million and establishes a transatlantic connection.

Seedcamp has spent nearly 20 years being the first to invest in companies before others believe they have value. Notable companies such as Revolut, Wise, UiPath, Synthesia, and Fluidstack received early funding from the London-based firm. On Monday, Seedcamp announced it had raised $320 million to continue this approach for the next generation, with a significant addition: an increased presence in the US.

The funds are divided into two parts. The first is a $220 million fund, Seedcamp's seventh, which serves as the primary vehicle for initial investments, supporting founders at the earliest stages, even before the business or its broader field is clear. The second is a $100 million Select fund designed to invest more in successful portfolio companies as they grow, extending funding through Series B and beyond.

This structure allows Seedcamp to maintain its early-stage investment strategy while retaining its strongest investments for longer periods, rather than watching larger later-stage investors take over the potential rewards.

The strategic focus now leans toward the US. Seedcamp is expanding its American team to create what it describes as a “transatlantic bridge,” aiming to enable European founders with global ambitions to connect with US capital, customers, and senior commercial and technical talent without having to relocate or delay their plans.

The firm presents this as a means to encourage founders to “think global from day one,” addressing the ongoing concern that Europe develops strong companies but often loses them, or their growth potential, to the US.

Seedcamp has the history to support its fundraising efforts. Established in 2007 with an initial fund of $2.5 million, it now oversees over $1 billion in assets. It claims that Fund III has returned over 13 times its capital to limited partners in cash terms, while Fund IV is valued at more than five times its original amount, figures that the firm states itself and which rank highly among European venture returns. More than 80 founders it has supported have reinvested in its funds, showing the effectiveness of its network.

The focus of Fund VII is noteworthy. Recent investments include BioOrbit, a space-manufacturing company; Sunrise Robotics, a developer of autonomous robotics; and Dust, an AI agent firm—indicating a shift towards AI applications in science and the physical space instead of just software.

The firm operates with a small investment team of seven and promotes a collective approach, contrasting with the industry's typical “lone wolf” model, with each partner collaborating across the portfolio.

“The past 20 years of European tech have shown that Europe can succeed,” stated Carlos Espinal, a managing partner. “The next two decades will see the emergence of companies that define whole industries globally from the outset.” His co-managing partner, Reshma Sohoni, emphasized the firm’s approach more directly: “Aspiring founders don’t seek reassurance; they desire the sharpest insights when the stakes are highest.”

In an uncommon move for the asset class, Seedcamp made public the LP fundraising deck used to secure the new funding. The firm asserts that the new fund provides the opportunity to be involved early and maintain that presence on both sides of the Atlantic.
