Amazon's Sleep Studio feature transforms Echo devices into a calming sleep aid for children.
Amazon has introduced a new bedtime feature called Sleep Studio for its Echo Kids devices. This feature provides children with access to a curated collection of sleep-oriented content, which includes guided meditations, calming soundscapes, and stories from Calm, Headspace, and Moshi. Sleep Studio is available through the Amazon Kids+ subscription, which is included with the Echo Dot Kids and Echo Pop Kids.
**How it works**
Parents can establish sleep schedules and create playlists using the Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard. Approximately 30 minutes prior to bedtime, the Echo device will automatically start playing the selected content. Kids have the option to activate Sleep Studio by asking Alexa, which is designed to foster independent sleep routines.
Amazon's Echo Glow can also be paired with Sleep Studio to provide a visual indicator using color-coded lighting that signals the onset of bedtime.
**Content partners and availability**
The content library features contributions from three partners. Calm offers meditation resources, lullabies, soundscapes, and sleep stories. Headspace provides winding-down content developed by child psychiatrists and pediatricians. Moshi, the children's audio brand from Mind Candy, contributes bedtime stories set within the Moshi Monsters universe.
Amazon states that this feature was created with research on child sleep patterns in mind, referencing National Sleep Foundation data indicating that nearly half of U.S. children do not get enough sleep. Sleep Studio is currently available on the Echo Dot Kids, Echo Pop Kids, and any Echo device that has an Amazon Kids+ profile activated. This addition gives Amazon's Echo Kids devices a stronger value proposition in the children’s technology market, where dedicated sleep applications and smart night lights have gained a loyal following among parents.
