AirPods are finally receiving a personalized EQ to adjust the listening experience.
Too much bass? Not enough? You can now adjust that yourself.
As much as I will never forgive Apple for eliminating the headphone jack on phones, I truly enjoy my AirPods. The AirPods Pro 2 are the finest wireless earbuds I have ever had. With their balanced audio quality, long battery life, seamless connectivity, and outstanding noise cancellation, AirPods excel in every aspect.
However, there was one crucial feature lacking in AirPods. Unlike most earbuds that allow you to customize your sound profile, AirPods come with a fixed audio setting. Therefore, if you preferred a heavier bass, you were fortunate.
This is changing now. At the WWDC 2026 event, Apple announced that AirPods will finally receive a customizable EQ setting, enabling users to personalize their listening experience.
How does the new AirPods EQ function?
When you access the Equalizer settings, you'll find two options: Recommended and Custom. The Recommended profile is the default tuning Apple has always used, intended to faithfully convey your music in the way intended by its creators.
However, if you want to take charge, you can opt for the Custom setting and modify the EQ to suit your preferences. You can adjust the Low, Mid, and High frequencies to tailor the sound to your liking.
There’s even a live waveform and a sample track active, allowing you to hear the changes in real-time as you make adjustments. And if you go too far and ruin it, there's a convenient Reset button to revert to the original settings.
It's a minor addition, but one that AirPods users have long desired. Better late than never, as they say.
When will you be able to access the new EQ feature?
The custom EQ setting will be included in the iOS 27 update. Therefore, you will have to be patient before you can start customizing your AirPods’ sound profile. If you can't wait, the developer beta will be released today, but proceed with caution as it may be buggy.
Your old iPhone can run iOS 27, just don’t expect the exciting features.
Apple claims everyone is invited to iOS 27, but it appears to be a VIP event.
Apple promoted iOS 27's compatibility with older iPhones at WWDC 2026, and it sounds promising. If your iPhone is running iOS 26, it is eligible for iOS 27, benefiting devices as old as the iPhone 11. However, the fine print reveals that most of the desirable features remain inaccessible.
So, what can older iPhones actually utilize?
Apple introduces new child safety tools amid growing pressure on Big Tech.
New child safety tools provide parents with greater control over what their children can view, download, and browse online.
Apple unveiled a fresh set of child safety features at WWDC 2026, empowering parents to manage what their kids can access on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This update comes as authorities increasingly press tech companies to ensure children's safety online. Australia has already taken steps to limit social media access for individuals under 16, and various European nations are also considering similar measures. In addition to monitoring screen time, parents and regulators are also concerned about inappropriate content, online strangers, social media interactions, and whether kids are using the internet prematurely.
Siri receives its most significant enhancement ever, becoming more personalized than before.
Apple has finally accomplished what it's been hinting at, developing, and carefully approaching for years: it has rebuilt Siri from the ground up and provided it with a significant intelligence boost. The new Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, transcends the traditional voice assistant role. It is being framed as a more conversational, context-aware companion that comprehends your intentions, location, and recent activities.
Indeed, it resembles the assistant Apple has been promising for years. The difference now is that it feels much closer to being something that people could realistically use every day. This new Siri fundamentally relies on Apple Intelligence to go beyond basic commands. It is capable of sourcing information from the web, apps, and your personal data—messages, emails, photos, and more—allowing it to respond in a way that feels like communicating with something that recalls your life.
