The Slayer is making a comeback in DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations with a lethal new weapon.
Doom Slayer is set to receive a chain spear, and the gameplay seems thrilling.
Bethesda has announced that the Doomguy is pulled into yet another hellish adventure shortly. The company has unveiled DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations, a new campaign expansion for the 2025 title. This additional content for DOOM: The Dark Ages will be released on July 7, 2026, featuring new levels, demons, and a weapon that appears perfectly suited for DOOM's chaotic nature.
A fresh and unsettling chapter for the Slayer
According to Bethesda's official statement, Revelations finds the Slayer in a dark purgatory following injury and betrayal. The narrative takes him through a sort of psychological prison, where he must confront uncomfortable truths, gain new strength aided by a mysterious ally, and ultimately face what Bethesda refers to as an "abomination of the gods."
While the gameplay will generally remain consistent, the studio teases "new mysteries" and more intricate puzzles. The Dark Ages already pursued a more grounded style of DOOM combat compared to the fast-paced action of Eternal, and Revelations seems designed to further develop that darker medieval theme, rather than merely introducing additional arenas for players.
Highlighting the Chain Spear
The main new weapon is the Chain Spear, intended for a more aggressive style of play. It's not merely an alternative attack method; it also enhances mobility. Bethesda characterizes it as a weapon that rewards skill, which should appeal to players who enjoy the challenge of rapidly dispatching demons.
This weapon seems to suit the combat tempo of The Dark Ages well. The main game already allows players to slice through hell with tools like the Shield Saw while incorporating larger battles like the Mecha Dragon and Atlan mech sequences. However, the Chain Spear serves as an assertive tool for controlling space and bridging gaps.
Additionally, Bethesda will roll out Ripatorium 3.0 as a free update on July 7 for all DOOM: The Dark Ages players. This update introduces more robust customization options, improved passcode generation, and personalized presets for the arena challenge mode. Players who purchase Revelations will also gain access to three extra Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons after finishing the expansion's storyline.
Revelations is included at no extra charge with the Premium Edition and Collectors Bundle. Owners of the base game can opt to buy it separately for $19.99 or upgrade to the Premium Edition for $34.99. DOOM: The Dark Ages is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, and can also be played through select Game Pass tiers.
