Snapchat Planets: What is their sequence, and what do they represent?
Snapchat is filled with various symbols that can be quite challenging to interpret. These include streaks, emojis, badges, scores, Best Friends, and for Snapchat Plus users, a mini solar system that indicates your rank in someone’s closest friends list.
This feature is known as Friend Solar System, though many refer to it as Snapchat Planets. It takes your position in a friend’s Snapchat orbit and converts it into a planet. From Mercury to Neptune, these planetary symbols represent the closeness of your relationship.
It's essential to note that Snapchat Planets is a feature exclusive to Snapchat Plus and is turned off by default for new subscribers. To access it, you must subscribe to Snapchat Plus and manually enable the Friend Solar System through the Snapchat Plus feature management page. Snapchat allows you to toggle this feature on or off at any time.
What are Snapchat Planets?
Snapchat Planets form part of Snapchat’s Friend Solar System feature. When activated, it transforms a friend’s Best Friends list into a solar system, positioning that friend as the sun and you as one of the surrounding planets.
In straightforward terms, the planet represents your rank in that friend’s Best Friends list. For instance, if you are identified as Mercury, you are their closest Snapchat friend; as Venus, you are next; and as Earth, you are third, and so forth.
You can check this by opening a friend’s Friendship Profile and tapping on the Best Friends or Friends badge that has a gold ring. Snapchat indicates that by tapping this badge, you can see which planet you occupy in their Solar System.
The planet you see reflects your place in their solar system, but it doesn’t necessarily indicate that they hold the same position with you.
Snapchat Planets order and meaning
The order of Snapchat Planets aligns with that of the actual solar system, excluding Pluto. Mercury is the closest, while Neptune is the furthest.
Thus, the ranking of your friends’ planets from closest to farthest is as follows:
- Mercury
- Venus
- Earth
- Mars
- Jupiter
- Saturn
- Uranus
- Neptune
And indeed, Pluto is once again omitted.
If you tap a badge on someone’s profile and see Earth, it signifies that you are third in their Snapchat Friend Solar System. If you see Neptune, it means you are still among their top eight friends but ranking further out.
Best Friends vs Friends: What’s the difference?
Snapchat Planets can be represented through two badges: Best Friends and Friends. The Best Friends badge indicates that both individuals are in each other’s closest friends circle, meaning you are within their top group, just as they are in yours. Conversely, a Friends badge denotes that you are in their Friend Solar System, but the relationship might not be reciprocated in the same way. You might be one of their top friends, even if they don't rank equally in your list.
Regardless, tapping the badge will show your planet, provided you have Snapchat Plus with the feature enabled.
How to see your Snapchat Planet
To view your Snapchat Planet, follow these steps:
1. Open Snapchat.
2. Navigate to a friend’s Friendship Profile.
3. Look for a Best Friends or Friends badge that features a gold ring.
4. Tap on the badge.
5. Snapchat will reveal which planet you occupy in that friend’s Solar System.
If there's no badge visible, it usually indicates that you either lack Snapchat Plus, haven't enabled Friend Solar System, or are not included in that person's visible friend rankings.
How to turn on Snapchat Planets
Before using Snapchat Planets, you need to have Snapchat Plus. Pricing may vary by location and plan, so the best way to confirm the current cost is within the Snapchat app or on Snapchat’s subscription page. Snapchat also provides several Plus-related plans in some areas, with availability differing.
After obtaining Snapchat Plus, you may still need to manually activate the Friend Solar System.
1. Open Snapchat and go to your profile.
2. Tap on your Snapchat Plus membership card or banner.
3. Access the Snapchat Plus feature management page.
4. Look for Solar System or Friend Solar System.
5. Toggle it on.
