Ubisoft aims for a resurgence with Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, along with an AI project that has players concerned.
Ubisoft’s inaugural playable generative AI project is on its way, but gamers are expressing skepticism.
Ubisoft is working to regain its momentum, leveraging its most popular franchises for this resurgence, as highlighted in its latest earnings report. However, the French publisher/studio is not solely depending on its well-known titles and is introducing generative AI as part of the upcoming experience.
According to Ubisoft’s fiscal year 2025-26 earnings report, the company anticipates a much stronger content pipeline for fiscal years 2027-28 and 2028-29, featuring releases tied to prominent franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon.
What are Ubisoft's plans?
The next year appears to be intentionally less packed. Ubisoft indicates that fiscal year 2026-27 will see the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, set for July 9, 2026, along with other targeted premium titles based on well-established brands. The studio also mentioned the discontinuation of seven projects and the delay of six others as part of a comprehensive portfolio restructuring.
Relying on its beloved franchises isn’t surprising, as these are major video game series with large, established fanbases, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon. Additionally, multiplayer games like Rainbow Six Siege, The Division 2, and The Crew have contributed to a strong Q4 performance, while Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence form part of the mobile initiative, even though they have had a slow start.
Concerns about AI among gamers
The most noteworthy aspect of the report is Ubisoft’s reference to Teammates, which is described as its “first playable Generative AI experience.” The company states it is increasing its investment in this project to “enhance player experiences.”
Ubisoft also claims that its teams are making headway in developing AI tools for their production pipelines, which include smarter bots for quality control, enhanced NPCs, and game worlds that can adjust to player actions and respond more dynamically in real time.
This development has already raised concerns among gamers. The topic of generative AI in gaming remains contentious, as many question whether these tools serve to aid developers or risk overshadowing human creativity.
The challenge will be demonstrating that Teammates is an experience that players genuinely desire. The feedback on social media has been largely negative, with players expressing worries about quality.
