AI podcasts are transforming audio platforms into content mills.

AI-generated content has already penetrated video feeds, gaming discussions, software development, and search results. Now, this low-effort machine-created material is infiltrating the podcasting space.

While music typically dominates the conversation surrounding AI-generated content, the challenges posed by podcasts may be less obvious and more difficult to address. Current AI tools can produce, upload, and even monetize entire shows considerably faster than traditional podcast production teams.

Is podcasting becoming a content mill?

A Bloomberg report highlights the rapid spread of this trend. According to the Podcast Index, over a span of about nine days, 10,871 new podcast feeds were established, with around 4,243 of them, or 39%, likely being AI-generated. One AI podcast startup now claims to have over 10,000 active shows and has launched 877 new shows in just 48 hours.

Podcasting's vulnerability intensifies at this scale because the discovery process is fundamentally different from that of music. A poorly made AI song can easily be skipped, whereas podcasts rely heavily on search, recommendations, and audience trust. If feeds become saturated with machine-generated content, listeners may find it increasingly challenging to locate genuine hosts, original reporting, or authentic discussions.

That trend is already noticeable in other AI-affected formats. Video platforms are grappling with the influx of low-quality AI uploads while promoting AI tools for creators. The gaming industry has experienced backlash over AI-generated visuals, with some players labeling certain AI graphics features as subpar. The coding sector faces similar challenges; while AI can expedite code writing for developers, it also leads to an increase in bugs, inadequate fixes, security vulnerabilities, and extra review workload. In the podcasting realm, the issue is not only the sheer volume of content but also the ease with which this content can be monetized.

Who gains when podcasts are automated?

The ease of monetization elevates podslop beyond a mere quality concern. Certain hosting services allow free podcasts to enter ad marketplaces with minimal oversight, enabling AI-generated shows to profit from downloads even if the content is weak or insufficiently vetted. One platform shares 60% of ad revenue with creators, while another states it can pause advertisements or remove shows if they are deemed substandard.

Apple Podcasts has begun requesting that creators disclose when a significant portion of a show employs AI. In contrast, Spotify relies on broader guidelines against misleading content and has yet to issue a specific policy on AI podcasts. This creates a trust issue for listeners and advertisers, as AI has simplified audio production while complicating verification processes.

AI-driven health policies are leaving the needy behind in one of the world's poorest nations.

A flawed AI system is raising medical expenses for Kenya's most disadvantaged families.

Kenya had been pledging to enhance access to more affordable healthcare. However, a new investigation has shown that its algorithm-based system is complicating life for those it aimed to assist the most. According to reports from The Guardian, Africa Uncensored, and Lighthouse Reports, Kenya's new Social Health Authority system employs a predictive machine-learning algorithm to estimate the payments required for public health insurance. This system was initially launched in October 2024 as part of President William Ruto's commitment to broaden healthcare access for Kenya’s large informal workforce.

The renowned Oak Ridge lab has just developed a portable device that detects GPS spoofing in real time.

Thieves can hijack your GPS while making everything appear perfectly normal. Scientists have now created a solution for that.

We rely on GPS as we do on gravity; it simply works and guides us to our destinations. But what if someone could deceive it into providing false information without your awareness? Unlike jamming, which floods your GPS with interference and makes it clear that something is amiss, spoofing transmits counterfeit signals that seem completely legitimate. You could be tracking your vehicle or a delivery, believing everything is fine, when in reality, the delivery has been redirected, without you even realizing it.

I use AI daily—here are three reasons why I opted for Claude over ChatGPT.

Since I rely on AI every day, I required something I could truly depend on rather than just occasionally using. Eventually, I realized that to achieve that level of consistency, I would need to make a financial investment. The real dilemma arose when it came to making my choice. It boiled down to ChatGPT and Claude. Having used ChatGPT for a considerable time, it already understands my thought process and needs, making it a comfortable option. However, as I researched Claude's capabilities, my decision became increasingly difficult. It was no longer a clear choice.

I contemplated for a while, weighing familiarity against functionality. In the
