The Xbox Ally X has introduced its own frame upscaling technology that competes with DLSS, along with several other updates.
Auto SR on the Ally X represents a crucial indication of the future direction of Xbox’s graphics strategy. This feature introduces OS-level AI upscaling that operates unobtrusively across numerous games.
Microsoft has recently released a significant update for the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. The Ally X is now receiving Auto SR, Xbox’s AI-driven upscaling technology, in a preview for Xbox Insiders, beginning today.
For those unfamiliar, Auto SR, which stands for Automatic Super Resolution, functions at the Windows OS level and does not require developers to implement it in individual games. As a result, any title utilizing DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 stands to benefit from this technology without needing extra patches.
What exactly is Auto SR, and why is it important?
When docked, Auto SR leverages the Ally X’s specialized NPU, which is exclusive to its Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, unlike the base Ally model, to upscale games to detail resembling 1440p while running at a lower native resolution.
According to early demonstrations from GDC 2026, this technology may yield up to a 30% increase in frame rates for supported titles, although some latency is introduced—something Microsoft deems acceptable. They are also looking into support for portable mode.
The update makes docking significantly smarter for both models by automatically disabling the handheld display when connected to a TV. Additionally, compatible smart TVs will automatically engage low-latency gaming modes.
What other enhancements are included in the handheld console updates?
In addition to adding HDR10 support for the ROG 100 Charger Dock, the ROG Bulwark Dock will feature both HDR10 and VRR, enabling synchronization of the TV's refresh rate to the game's frame rate in real-time. The introduction of Bluetooth LE Audio will provide lower-latency wireless audio and high-fidelity voice chat across both modes.
Furthermore, the update refines haptic feedback throughout. A Collective Library update is also part of this release, allowing games installed from any PC store, including Steam and Epic, to be accessed in the Xbox library via a ‘+’ button. This means users can launch all their games from one central interface without switching between applications.

Sony patent suggests a game system that adjusts difficulty based on player performance.
This PlayStation patent aims to enhance your gaming experience with AI.
Sony envisions a future of gaming where titles adapt in response to your feelings during play. A recently discovered patent outlines a system that utilizes generative AI to dynamically modify difficulty according to a player's emotional state, moving away from traditional metrics such as deaths or completion times. Instead, it will assess cues like stress, frustration, or engagement levels to adjust the gaming experience accordingly.
How does this AI gauge player emotions?
The next Grand Theft Auto may not be as expensive as expected, according to Take-Two CEO's comments about GTA 6.
It appears Rockstar's highly awaited game may not necessitate a hefty price tag. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke at iicon, a video game executive conference, addressing the prevalent concern among gamers regarding the potential cost of GTA 6. While he did not provide a specific number, his tone seemed to alleviate the unease that had been circulating within the gaming community regarding a rumored super-premium price point exceeding $100. Zelnick's remarks suggested a more reasonable approach. He even mentioned a point that many gamers intuitively recognize but rarely hear articulated by executives—that game prices have not significantly changed in over a decade, even as costs for everything else have surged. He clarified that he was not justifying higher prices but highlighting the importance of perceived value in the marketplace.
