Motorola has finally introduced a foldable device that competes with the Galaxy Fold 7 and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Up until now, Motorola has held a unique position in the flip phone market, sticking exclusively to its foldable phone strategy. While companies like Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and many others have explored book-style foldables, Motorola has refrained from entering this category for over five years.
However, this year at CES 2026, Motorola is finally taking the plunge into the traditional foldable smartphone arena with the launch of the Motorola Razr Fold.
This is not the device's complete launch; full specifications will be revealed in a few months, as Motorola has announced it will be available in North America this summer. Here’s what we know so far.
Motorola's most premium offering
The Razr Fold will come in two color options: Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White. The Blue variant features a woven vegan leather back with a smooth, durable matte finish.
The white model also uses woven vegan leather but offers what is described as a “smooth, modern luxury” feel—though the specifics of this distinction will only become clear in our review.
On the front, there’s a 6.6-inch outer display. When unfolded, the phone reveals an 8.1-inch 2K LTPO screen, which supports stylus use and includes palm rejection technology to avoid accidental input while writing.
At the rear, it boasts a triple camera setup, consisting of a 50MP Sony LYTIATM sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide/macro lens, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens. Dolby Vision is also supported for video recording.
Additionally, the Razr Fold has two more cameras: a 32MP external selfie camera and a 20MP internal camera for selfies taken with the phone unfolded.
With foldable phones becoming slimmer in the last year, there is hope that Motorola will produce a comparably sleek Razr Fold. The company claims the phone has a “slim silhouette,” but specific measurements have not been disclosed.
It remains to be seen if it can match the thickness of competitors like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (4.2mm when unfolded) and the Honor Magic V5 (also 4.2mm).
Motorola asserts that the Razr Fold stands as the most premium device in its lineup, stating that everything about the phone is top-tier. No other flagship model, whether foldable or not, will surpass it.
While the price has yet to be disclosed, this position suggests it could command a high price tag—potentially on par with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
When asked why it took Motorola so long to enter the book-style foldable market, a spokesperson informed Digital Trends that the company has been “evaluating the fold space for several years, but will not release a product if it compromises the consumer experience in any way. The technology and the market are now ready.”
The timing is intriguing, especially with rumors suggesting that Apple will launch the iPhone Fold later this year. Is Motorola aiming to establish its presence before the influx begins? Perhaps.
