Motorola
Motorola's presentation at CES 2026 was quite extensive. In addition to a slew of new PC hardware from its sister company Lenovo, the firm showcased its first book-style foldable phone and a new smartwatch created in collaboration with Polar. However, another announcement that may attract a wider audience flew somewhat under the radar.
The main attraction
The company's latest product in lifestyle technology is the Moto Tag 2, which has the potential to surpass Apple’s AirTags in several notable ways. For starters, Motorola asserts that its new object tracker can operate for 500 days before a battery replacement is necessary.
In comparison, AirTags are advertised to last for one year. The battery used in the Moto Tag 2 is user-replaceable, and to clarify, it utilizes the widely available CR2032 coin-shaped standard.
It also includes some appealing features. The button on the device can function as a remote camera shutter when paired with a smartphone. Furthermore, it is capable of reverse location tracking for your connected devices.
Going above and beyond
“In addition to helping users locate their items, the Moto Tag 2 can assist in finding lost phones. Users can press the tag’s button to ring their device, making it easy to locate even if it's on silent,” the company explains. This functionality is made possible by Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology.
Another significant feature is the inclusion of Ultra Wideband connectivity, which allows for centimeter-level location accuracy with minimal latency. The device boasts an IP68 rating, providing protection against dust and water.
Regarding ecosystem and connectivity options, the Moto Tag 2 supports Remote Camera capture, Find My Phone, Location Sharing, and Google Find Hub integration. It is available in a single Pantone Laurel Oak color, with pricing information yet to be announced.
