HP’s gaming strategy receives an update with the new HyperX OMEN lineup.
The announcement introduces three new HyperX products: the OMEN MAX 16 gaming laptop, the OMEN OLED 34 monitor, and the Clutch Tachi arcade controller. All of these products are aimed at gamers. Let's begin with what the company describes as the “world’s most powerful gaming laptop with fully internal cooling.”
The HyperX OMEN MAX 16 is equipped with either Intel Core Ultra 200HX series or AMD Ryzen AI processors. For graphics, the laptop boasts up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU (for high-FPS gaming), making it one of the most advanced mobile GPUs on the market.
Compared to the prior generation HP OMEN gaming laptop, the HyperX OMEN MAX 16 exhibits a 20% increase in total platform power (now rated at 300W). This enables the system to maintain higher CPU and GPU clock speeds for longer periods without throttling.
To handle the increased power, the laptop includes the OMEN Tempest Cooling Pro system, featuring a third fan and cleaning technology that enhances overall cooling efficiency. Together, the CPU, GPU, and cooling system provide a desktop-level gaming experience in a portable design.
The HyperX OMEN MAX 16 can be configured with up to a 16-inch 2.5K OLED display, 500-nit brightness, with a peak refresh rate of 240Hz. Other notable features comprise a high-polling-rate keyboard (up to four times faster than the previous generation) with full-size arrow keys, OMEN Light Studio, and OMEN AI functionalities.
Next is the HyperX OMEN OLED 34 gaming monitor, which features a 34-inch V-stripe QD-OLED curved panel (21:9) with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels. With a peak refresh rate of 360Hz, an incredibly quick response time of 0.03 ms, and a peak brightness of 500 nits, the monitor covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Additional characteristics of the monitor include a USB-C port with 100W power delivery, two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, and a KVM switch for managing connected PCs. Unique features include a built-in headphone hook and a three-year limited warranty, assisting in preventing screen burn-in.
Lastly, the company has introduced the HyperX Clutch Tachi, its first Xbox-licensed arcade-style controller featuring magnetic switches and customizable inputs. All products—including the HyperX OMEN MAX 16, the gaming monitor, and the controller—are set to be available this spring.
