Boston Dynamics promises to transform Atlas into a ‘superhuman’ robot.

Boston Dynamics promises to transform Atlas into a ‘superhuman’ robot.

The U.S. technology company announced its intentions at CES 2026.

**The Start of Your Tomorrow | Boston Dynamics**

Boston Dynamics is at the forefront of the humanoid robot industry, with Atlas making its debut in 2013 and evolving into the sophisticated bipedal robot it is now.

Since that time, propelled by innovations in robotics hardware and AI, numerous tech companies, both large and small, have jumped into the arena, rapidly striving to be the first to develop a scalable robot for industrial applications or even household use.

Boston Dynamics remains a strong contender, and at CES 2026 on Monday, the Massachusetts-based firm disclosed several significant plans for the Atlas humanoid robot.

The first plan involves a partnership with the Korean automotive company Hyundai, Boston Dynamics' primary investor. The objective is to incorporate Atlas into Hyundai’s worldwide manufacturing network, beginning with pilots at the automaker’s advanced Metaplant in Georgia.

“Atlas will be deployed in processes with established safety and quality advantages, such as parts sequencing,” the company announced in a press release. “By 2030, its applications will expand to component assembly, and over time, Atlas will also handle tasks that require repetitive movements, heavy loads, and more intricate operations — creating safer workplaces for factory workers.”

Additionally, Boston Dynamics is collaborating with Google’s DeepMind AI research laboratory to enhance the latest version of Atlas with advanced AI capabilities.

This technology will enhance the humanoid robot’s perception, reasoning, and ability to interact with humans, with Atlas units already en route to DeepMind for testing and refinement.

“This partnership will merge Boston Dynamics’ expertise in robotics with Google DeepMind’s state-of-the-art robot AI foundational models, fostering the advancement of groundbreaking technologies,” the company stated.

A two-minute video released by Boston Dynamics showcases the impressive progress of its robots over the years. It suggests that Atlas is on the path to becoming a “superhuman robot” that’s “designed to perform and to work.” The company envisions a future where “robots accompany us as helpers and companions, making life easier, safer, and more rewarding.” While these are ambitious claims, Boston Dynamics' substantial experience and its strategic advantage from being under Hyundai’s ownership make it challenging to doubt the firm's ability to realize this vision.

Do you enjoy living on the edge? Think of this app as a safety net for your high-risk lifestyle.

I’ve lost track of how many times my laptop has powered off during work. There have been occasions when I simply overlooked the low battery warning. On other instances, I noticed the alert but forgot to plug in the charger. Most recently, I was working on a 7% battery while comfortably seated on a bean bag, convinced I could finish my task before grabbing the power bank. I misjudged my working speed, and my MacBook Air shut down in the middle of the job. Fortunately, cloud sync preserved my progress.
