HP's latest keyboard PC aims to take the place of your traditional desktop configuration.
At CES 2026, HP unveiled a new keyboard PC that offers a surprisingly practical approach. The computer is built into the keyboard, enabling users to transport their entire setup between desks without the need for a mini PC or a laptop dock.
Named the HP EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC, HP claims it's the first full AI PC integrated into a keyboard, highlighting the benefits of local on-device AI performance rather than relying on cloud services.
Additionally, HP introduced the HP Series 7 Pro 4K Monitor as a complementary product, targeted at those who frequently utilize large screens and switch between multiple devices.
A portable desktop solution
According to HP, the EliteBoard G1a measures 12 mm in thickness and weighs 750 g, featuring integrated dual microphones and speakers within the keyboard. Users can simply bring the keyboard, connect it to any available display, and enjoy a desktop-like experience without a separate tower.
For AI-centric tasks, HP specifies the use of an AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processor accompanied by an NPU that boasts over 50 TOPS, alongside Copilot+ PC positioning and EPEAT 2.0 Gold certification. The device also includes HP Smart Sense, AMD Auto State Management, and an optional built-in battery designed to optimize performance, cooling, and power management while on the move.
The advantages and disadvantages
The main advantage lies in the simplicity it offers for adaptable work environments. For those who utilize hot desking, transition between conference rooms, or divide their time between home and the office, this keyboard PC could reduce the number of devices and setup steps required. Monitors and peripherals can remain in place, while the computer can easily accompany the user.
The downside is that a display is still necessary wherever you go, and HP has yet to disclose pricing information. Without a price point, it’s challenging to determine whether this product could serve as a replacement for a compact desktop, a business laptop, or a combination of both, especially for teams considering outfitting.
What to anticipate before March
HP anticipates that the EliteBoard G1a and the Series 7 Pro 4K Monitor will be available on their website in March, with pricing information provided closer to the launch date. This cost will ultimately determine whether the device is a practical solution for actual workplaces or merely an intriguing concept that remains specialized. Security is also a key focus in their offering. HP is including HP Wolf Security for Business and emphasizing hardware-enforced security for sensitive data and AI tasks, including protections against emerging quantum threats.
For those who prioritize the monitor, HP highlights its use of IPS black performance and Neo LED display technology in 4K, along with Thunderbolt 4 supporting up to 140W power delivery and 40Gbps data transfer for a streamlined single-cable workspace. Before making a purchase, be on the lookout for final pricing and a comprehensive list of ports, as these details will significantly influence the product's viability.
