      Microsoft is introducing a small update to Windows 11 that I have been eagerly anticipating. The operating system is starting to display a new “Opt out of backup” button on its full-screen OneDrive backup notification. My nearly six-year-old desktop PC prompts me to enable backup every few days.

      Previously, this appeared as a full-screen message, offering either the option to enable backup or to select “Remind me in 3 days.” During the initial setup, you would only see options to “Continue” or “Skip for now.” Now, there will be a clear choice to opt out of OneDrive backup.

      Finally, you can say farewell to the constant nagging.

      As reported by Windows Latest, this new option is showing up on stable Windows 11 installations and seems designed to permanently remove the backup prompt. It was identified on two PCs using Windows 11 25H2. In the past, opting for the reminder option did not truly resolve the issue, as Windows could bring back the OneDrive prompt later, forcing users to continue postponing something they never intended to activate.

      While there are beneficial features like cloud backups and file protection, the ability to opt out is a choice many users have long desired. We have voiced our concerns about this before, and this new option should have been available years ago. OneDrive can become intricately linked with essential Windows folders like Documents and Desktop, which can create conflicts with PC games that store configuration files in Documents.

      Windows 11 keeps improving

      This change comes amidst Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance the Windows experience. In a recent earnings call, Satya Nadella confirmed that Windows is continually improving in quality and fundamental features. Additionally, Windows has been reducing the overwhelming presence of Copilot features.
