Rumors suggest that Samsung is working on a larger battery for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, and leaked CAD designs indicate significant design alterations, highlighted by a substantial new camera plateau.
A recent leak provides insight into Samsung's battery plans. Leaker Kro reports that the company is currently testing five prototypes with battery capacities ranging from 5,700mAh to 6,000mAh. If the final model approaches the upper end of this range, it would represent a notable improvement over the 5,000mAh batteries Samsung has utilized for several iterations.
Silicon-carbon technology could assist Samsung in achieving a 6,000mAh battery.
Earlier leaks had already suggested a battery capacity for the Galaxy S27 Ultra around 5,700mAh, and it's believed that Samsung is exploring silicon-carbon technology for its upcoming phones.
Samsung recently launched silicon-carbon batteries in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, allowing for more energy to be stored in the same physical space. While Samsung has not confirmed the use of this technology in the Galaxy S27 Ultra, a battery nearing 6,000mAh would certainly make this development more intriguing.
Even at 6,000mAh, Samsung would still lag behind some Chinese flagship models that have exceeded 7,000mAh with silicon-carbon batteries. According to Kro's leak, Samsung has experimented with achieving that higher capacity, though this endeavor seemed to require a controversial trade-off.

Kro also mentioned that Samsung tested a Galaxy S27 Ultra prototype that did not include the built-in S Pen. By eliminating the stylus and the silo that houses it, Samsung was purportedly able to increase the battery capacity to 7,000mAh.
Such a version would bring Samsung closer to the battery capacities seen in some Chinese flagship devices, but omitting the S Pen would be a significant choice. The Galaxy S22 Ultra was the first Galaxy S model to feature an integrated S Pen in 2022, continuing a legacy element from the now-defunct Galaxy Note series. Since then, it has been a hallmark of Samsung’s Ultra lineup.
A 7,000mAh battery sounds appealing, but I believe Galaxy Ultra enthusiasts would have much to say if the S Pen had to be sacrificed for that capacity. For now, the prototypes ranging from 5,700mAh to 6,000mAh appear to be the more realistic option.
