Nvidia’s DLSS 4.5 has several features, so here’s what is most important for gamers.
Nvidia utilized Gamescom 2026 to introduce another significant addition to DLSS 4.5. Ray Reconstruction is now accessible via an Early Access NVIDIA app update, extending Nvidia’s advanced second-generation transformer model to ray-traced and path-traced games across all GeForce RTX GPUs.
To recap, Nvidia first announced this technology at CES 2026, unveiling a new Super Resolution model and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, followed by the launch of 6X Multi Frame Generation and the dynamic system in March. Ray Reconstruction was later unveiled and has now been made available to users at Gamescom, with the official release of the NVIDIA app set for September.
This upgrade is more than just a simple optimization. It presents a DLSS package that addresses multiple issues simultaneously. From Super Resolution to Frame Generation, here's a breakdown of the changes and the games that will benefit from them.
What DLSS 4.5 actually offers
DLSS has evolved from being a singular graphics setting to a suite of AI rendering technologies. The features provided vary notably based on the RTX generation you possess.
**DLSS 4.5 features:**
- **Super Resolution:** Constructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render using a second-generation transformer model. *Supported by all GeForce RTX GPUs.*
- **Ray Reconstruction:** Substitutes traditional ray-tracing denoisers with an AI reconstruction model. *Supported by all GeForce RTX GPUs.*
- **Frame Generation:** Creates an additional frame between conventionally rendered frames. *Supported on RTX 40 and RTX 50 Series.*
- **Multi Frame Generation:** Produces several extra frames for each traditionally rendered frame. *Supported on RTX 50 Series.*
- **6X Multi Frame Generation:** Generates up to five additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. *Supported on RTX 50 Series in compatible games.*
- **Dynamic Multi Frame Generation:** Adjusts the frame-generation multiplier in real-time to match a selected frame rate or display refresh rate. *Supported on RTX 50 Series.*
In January, the most comprehensive DLSS 4.5 upgrade was rolled out. Nvidia’s second-generation Super Resolution transformer model is compatible with all RTX GPUs and can currently be applied to over 400 games and applications through NVIDIA app overrides. Nvidia asserts that gamers can observe enhancements across various visual elements, including lighting quality, edge clarity, and artifact management.
Users of the RTX 50 series benefit from enhanced performance features. The 6X Multi Frame Generation can generate five AI-assisted frames for every traditionally rendered frame, while Dynamic Multi Frame Generation adjusts the multiplier automatically based on GPU load.
**Ray Reconstruction for ray tracing shows significant potential**
Ray tracing may seem straightforward when described as simulating light rays bouncing across a scene. However, achieving this comprehensively for every pixel in real-time requires immense computational power, leading games to operate with a limited number of ray samples.
Conventional ray-traced games depend on manually tuned denoisers to smooth out noisy data into a usable image, which may cause some fine lighting details to be lost in the process. In 2023, Nvidia introduced Ray Reconstruction with DLSS 3.5 as an AI-driven alternative. This technology is compatible with every RTX GPU since it does not rely on the newer frame-generation hardware present in RTX 40 or RTX 50 cards.
DLSS 4.5 upgrades the original Ray Reconstruction network with a second-generation transformer model. Simply put, this enhances the image quality in games, leading to more accurate lighting, improved temporal stability, and clearer motion. The model is also integrated with DLSS Super Resolution. Furthermore, Nvidia is providing developers with greater control over temporal accumulation, influencing how data from prior frames impacts the current image.
Our tests found Ray Reconstruction particularly beneficial in titles like Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077, where traditional denoising can diminish the visual impact of path tracing.
