Samsung believes that the Exynos 2700 has the potential to outperform Qualcomm’s top next-generation chip.
Samsung may be gearing up to make one of its most ambitious claims regarding the Exynos chipset in years. A recent report from industry analyst Ice Universe, referencing Korean media, indicates that Samsung is very confident that its upcoming Exynos 2700 chipset can surpass Qualcomm’s soon-to-be-released Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, including the more advanced Pro version.
The projected performance figures are bold enough to raise questions. If these claims are validated in real production devices, the Galaxy S27 could signify a significant revival for Samsung’s in-house processor division. However, for now, these figures are merely preliminary estimates and not independently confirmed benchmark results.
Samsung's next Exynos could finally compete with Qualcomm
As per the report mentioned by Ice Universe, the Exynos 2700 aims for a 19% lead over the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in Geekbench 6.5 multi-core performance, while also being approximately 9.5% ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
Graphics performance could prove even more critical for mobile devices. At peak levels, the Exynos 2700 is said to be about 5% quicker than Qualcomm’s Pro chip. However, under a 2.5W power constraint, the supposed lead expands significantly, with Samsung’s chipset reportedly achieving 24% higher GPU performance than the standard variant and 22% more than the Pro model.

This distinction is crucial since smartphones do not typically operate at their maximum performance for extended durations. Activities like gaming, camera processing, and AI tasks can cause heating, necessitating a reduction in chip performance. A processor that maintains better performance at lower power levels might provide enhanced sustained gaming experiences while conserving battery life.
The report also suggests an advantage in AI processing. In Llama 3.1 8B tests, the Exynos 2700 reportedly provided responses 18% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, with prompt handling said to be roughly 5% quicker.
The larger benefit is Samsung's reduced reliance on Qualcomm
Efficiency could be the most significant aspect claimed. In a test meant to replicate typical smartphone usage, the Exynos 2700 is said to have consumed 161mA, compared to 185mA for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, representing an estimated 12.7% lower power consumption.
Samsung is expected to produce the chip using its second-generation 2nm GAA process, called SF2P. Successful results would not only benefit Samsung's mobile division but also enhance Samsung Foundry's reputation, demonstrating that its latest manufacturing technology can compete at elite levels.
There’s a financial incentive as well. The report mentions that Samsung invested approximately KRW 13.8272 trillion in mobile application processors in 2023. Increasing the use of Exynos in the Galaxy S27 series could lessen the company’s dependency on Qualcomm and reduce sourcing costs for flagship chips.
However, a successful Exynos chip will need more than just impressive benchmark figures. Samsung must ultimately validate the claimed advantages in actual phones, where thermal performance, sustained gaming capability, battery longevity, and camera processing are far more critical than scores obtained in a lab setting.
If Ice Universe’s reported figures are even somewhat accurate, the Exynos 2700 could be Samsung’s strongest flagship processor in years. The real assessment will occur when production hardware is available and Qualcomm has the chance to respond.
