The upcoming WhatsApp update for iPhone might simplify the process of searching through chats.

      WhatsApp is making it easier to locate specific messages amidst a busy chat.

      According to Rachit Agarwal from Digital Trends, searching for a previous message within a crowded WhatsApp conversation has often felt cumbersome, particularly on iPhones. Fortunately, WhatsApp is addressing this issue by introducing a new button that allows users to enter search mode without leaving the chat.

      Currently, to search for a message on WhatsApp on an iPhone, users must navigate through menus. This involves tapping the contact or group name at the top to access the chat info screen, and then selecting the search button, which takes you back into the chat with the search function activated.

      Although this approach works, it adds an unnecessary extra step and obscures the search feature, which may not be easily discoverable for all users. However, if the finding by WaBetaInfo is accurate, searching within a chat will soon become much simpler.

      So, what changes are coming to in-chat search on WhatsApp?

      According to the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.31.10.70 in TestFlight, the app is developing a dedicated search button that will be located directly on the chat screen. Instead of needing to go into chat info first, users will be able to tap this button to begin searching immediately.

      The button won't be visible at all times; it will only appear when you scroll up through older messages, similar to how the "jump to latest message" button functions. If you scroll up, the button will show at the bottom-right corner of the screen, and it will vanish when you return to the latest messages.

      WaBetaInfo notes that this change, while seemingly minor, eliminates an annoying detour. Currently, searching requires leaving the chat, navigating through a menu, and then returning to the original position. The new button simplifies this process to just a single tap.

      WhatsApp has yet to announce a release date for this feature, which is still under development, but it signifies that a faster in-context search option is on the horizon for iPhone users.
